We were en route from Sydney to Melbourne and stopped overnight at Albury. The hotel was full, but we liked the look of the restaurant, so we opted to dine there.
We ordered the nights Special dinner menu - $33.00, as we thought it looked nice. The waiting staff - especially Ian, were very pleasant and had an easy way to them.
When the meal arrived, it was decidedly unimaginative with very poor flavour.
Bacon and potato soup, was ok but considering it contained ingredients which should have made a pleasant soup, it was, to say the least, nothing special. The potato was grainy, the bacon tasted like the packets of chunks my grandchildren eat on the pizzas. And the flavour was unforgettable.
The mains was Porterhouse steak - it was small and bland and a very poor example of a porterhouse steak. Have had much, much better for half the price, even in Sydney. Carrots, broccoli - nice crunch. Potatoes - mashed to mush with little or no flavour. There is no good excuse for this in a hotel of this standard and at this price.
Dessert - chocolate mousse. What came was like broken chocolate cake in a glass topped with a vanilla cheese cake type topping. No sign of mousse of any sort.
Wine was alright and Ian had advised well.
Hotel, dining room looked good and the staff were very nice, but the food let them down very badly.
We won't be back.
