“Nicest backpack we stayed on the west coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

This is a lovely place, we arrived during a storm so we didn't have lot of things on, but the team gave us good place to see. The hostel was nice and welcoming. I loved the salon with the fire what perfect after a long day of rain. The kitchen is well equipped and the garden is peaceful, I will definitely recommend this place

Located right around the corner from i-SITE, shops and restaurants. Super comfy beds, clean and spacious kitchen, very helpful staff, great advice on what to do in Westport... Even the weather was fantastic! :) 100 points from me!

I stayed at Bazils in an unpowered site with my camper van (hence I rate rooms as average, because I didn't see and sleep in the rooms). It was a great place to stay as facilities were mostly clean and comprehensive (they also charged me not much) at it has a good vibe and activities. I didnt do surfing as I had no time but they encourage doing so, which is great. The place itself was way too busy in the two nights I stayed there with heaps of Kiwi Experience turists and high school sports teams, and there was not plenty of space to cook and eat but I think that overall these guys are doing a great job.

I had an awesome 3 night's at Bazil's with my school basketball team. There were at least 20 of us there and still plenty of room to hang out in and not be cramped. I absolutely loved the hammocks in the backyard, the close proximity to town and fire and video choice in the lounge room. Although a few of the bunks felt a bit dodgy the overall decor of the rooms and practicability was great. I loved the wooden tables and benches in the kitchen although we did tend to run out of cutlery on occasion. Would be nice to have a freezer and completely working ovens in the main house. Overall I would definitely recommend Bazil's to anyone and everyone. :)

We enjoyed our 2 night stay here. The vibe of the place is fantastic. There are plenty of hammocks and nice backyard to hang out in. The kitchen is clean and well stocked. The bathrooms were clean enough but could use a little dusting in the corners. We enjoyed the generous hospitality from the staff. We used bikes from the hostel which were in great condition. They provide helmets as well. We didn't try surfing but wished that we did. It is in a GREAT location and we strongly recommend tasting out the beer at the brewery around the corner. We didn't find it too loud even though there was a tour bus staying on site. There is so much to do in Westport and we would highly recommend going and staying at Bazil's. We only stayed for two nights but could have stayed longer. We went on a caving tour at a nearby town and also biked out to some secluded beaches. There are plenty of biking and hiking trails and the weather was fantastic even though we were there in the Winter. We stayed in a private room and it was decent. Nothing to complain about and expectations of a basic room were met. The communal showers and washrooms were fine and never had to wait to use them. We would stay here again!

Loved this place - quirky decor, really nice outdoor area with hammocks, well equipped kitchen and really good communal area with wood burner fire. Heaps of vids for the eve and bean bags.

Also offer surf lessons for about $70 for 2 hours which was well worth it! Hot choc and good equipment and instructing, defs worth getting out of bed for.

Only regret - not staying here longer.

Pretty good hostel, quite hippy! Nice man on reception. Not enough communal toilets and showers, these weren't so nice but it was fine. Quite a big kitchen with lots of pans ect. I stayed in a 6 bed dorm which was quite spacious.
