We visited redcliff for dinner one night after hiking on the Milford road on the back of rave trip advisor reviews.
We ordered smoked salmon for entrees and had the lamb and pork and scallops for mains. The pork and lamb were tasty but not spectacular, but I'm not sure what they were thinking with the salmon. It's not the soft smokey salmon that you would expect, I think it was hot smoked so it was actually cooked salmon that was allowed to cool down and I think it was over done so it had a bitter tang to it. The lemon marinated cucumber that went with it was also quite bitter and extremely sour. The portions were generous with the main but we got a tiny piece of smoked salmon.
I found the service to be efficient though our waitress didn't seen particularly friendly - the menu wasn't explained to us in any detail.
The cottage Itself was very interesting, it had lots of knick knacks on display and was apparently a favourite with The Lord of the rings crew. Overall not bad in comparison with the other food options in Te Anau but I didn't find it amazing like other people on trip advisor have.
