“Perfect luxury B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2014

We are a family with two teenage children and loved our two night stay at Dunluce. This is a new property on the outskirts of town with great views of the fields and lakes. The whole property is perfectly maintained with good size bedrooms and bathrooms that are both quite luxurious. Roger and Wendy were so friendly and welcoming and really looked after us. The cakes and drinks in the lounge each day are a wonderful extra touch. Wendy cooks a fantastic breakfast and overall we felt quite spoilt. Totally recommended!

Room Tip: We had two rooms and both were lovely with great views.

Apart from being a superb B & B with most friendly hosts Wendy and Roger, we were wondering on our various stops what the next bed would be like. This was the best, lovely and soft and slept like a log. To be followed by a marvelous breakfast of many choices made this place special

Room Tip: They're all good

We had a wonderful stay here - Wendy and Roger are amazing hosts and give you a very warm welcome and loads of extras that you just don't expect that make it a special place to stay. The rooms are superbly comfortable with views across to the lake and mountains and there is a lovely patio where you can soak up the views and relax with the complimentary wine left for you to help yourself whenever you want. Wendy bakes superb cakes daily so as well as the usual hot drinks, the wine went down a treat with a slice of whatever delight Wendy had cooked. The breakfasts are cooked to order and delicious..... we so wished we had stayed there longer which is surely the best sign of an excellent place to stay! Look no further than Dunluce if you intend to stay in Te Anua but make it more than one night - you won't regret it!

Room Tip: All the rooms are the same standard but there is one slightly larger one that has a jacuzzi bath and...

I agree with everything Ester1228 said. The beds were wonderfully comfortable, free wi-fi was great (as you usually have to pay for wi-fi in NZ), the hosts were welcoming and helpful, the breakfast and afternoon snacks were delicious (they keep their own garden), the "help yourself to a glass of wine" was greatl. the bathroom showers were luxiourous, the private sitting area was nice. Given the remoteness of Te Anau, I was a bit apprehensive about our accomodations; I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The house was designed with a private wing and a B&B wing, everything was sleek and contemporary. I don't know how much we paid (arranged by travel agent), so can't attest to "value."

We stayed 3 nights at Dunluce while travelling round New Zealand with friends. We found it very comfortable with welcoming hosts. As others have said it is the detail which is so nice, free drinks both juices and wine, wifi, large beds, good breakfasts (especially the fresh fruit which was more varied and plentiful than almost any of the other b&bs we used), free use of the washing machine.
The view across flat grassland to the lake with mountains beyond was very attractive and a nice change from being perched on a hill looking steeply down. Being slightly out of town meant it was very quiet.
Our hosts were attentive and interested suggesting where we could eat, walk, etc.
The house is fairly new with the guest rooms strung out in a row, these had less space than many others we used but did have nice individual outdoor areas to sit in.
In summary, I would certainly recommend Dunluce to anyone wishing to stay in Te Anau.

I stay 2 nights here with my husband and my parents, as the last leg of a 2 week NZ trip. By the time we got to Te Anau, we were pretty tired from all the driving but we were very excited when we set up into the charming B&B.

Wendy and Roger greeted us at the door and made us feel completely at home. We have never stayed at a B&B before and Te Anau is probably one of the most remote places we have stayed at in all of our travels (and I travel a lot for work and pleasure) so we were a bit apprehensive at first, but the instant we met Wendy and Roger, all the apprehension just melted away.

The B&B is beautifully appointed with a kitchen + common area separating the hosts' living quarters and the B&B guest rooms (4 in total). The rooms themselves are very spacious, with a large comfortable bed and good sized bathroom. The rooms are very well kept, looks new even though Dunluce has been operating for quite a few years, which attests to the standard of care and attention to detail the hosts aspires to. It also has free wifi!

The highlight of the stay has to be the snacks and the breakfast, lovingly prepared by Wendy. She is such a great cook!! The cakes in the afternoon were divine and the breakfast meals were absolutely delicious. These meals were better than the meals we had at any of the restaurants in Te Anau. During breakfast, Roger would also spend 10 mins explaining the routes to Milford Sound and the other sights along the way which is incredibly helpful.

The location also quite lovely. It is on the outskirts of town (but that is hardly an issue with a car and absolutely no traffic), but it had a lovely view of the lake in the distance which added to the tranquility of the setting.

Te Anau itself is a quaint little town, quiet, peaceful and incredibly laid back. Food options are scarce but the beautiful scenery makes up for it. And Dunluce B&B is definitely the best place to rest and take it all in after a day of exploring.

We stayed one night on our way to Milford Sound, and were happily surprised by the friendliness of the owners, the neatness of the rooms, the great food, and best of all, the view from our room. We kept the curtain open so that we could enjoy the view of the snow-capped mountains first thing on waking up, and it was stunning!

It's a fairly expensive place, but we were well rewarded for it!
