Whle the studio room was comfortable, the furnishings were quite basic. There was a meter box outside our room which was very loud at times during the night. There was no wardrobe, just a few coathooks by the bed. There was little privacy as all rooms face a busy main road. While the name of the establishment suggests lake frontage, there are no direct views of the lake, only views of the road. While our 3 night stay was quoted at $120 per night, we were charged $130. Overall, the only disappointing accommodation we experienced in our 2 weeks in New Zealand.

The owner here is incredibly friendly and welcoming. We chose a studio suite and were extremely impressed. The room was large and spotlessly clean, and the kitchen looked almost new. The bed was also very comfortable. The bathroom was a good size and was also new-looking, with a good large shower and heated towel rails. It was also cheap at $120 NZD. We highly recommend this lodge.

My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the Lakeshore Lodge and enjoyed our stay. The room was not facing the lake but there are picnic tables outside each room to enjoy the view of the lake. The hosts were great - they recommended tours and booked them for us, which was great. However, I would still recommend researching all the tour companies before going. The lodge is also conveniently located on a main road and is very easy to find. It is also fairly close to restaurants and shops - about a 10 to 15 minute walk to most restaurants. It is not a fancy place but comfortable and would stay here again.

This hotel isn't on the lakeside: it runs along a busy road at right angles to the lake. The rooms have a glass door and window filling the whole of the side facing the road, so if you want some privacy you'll probably keep the blinds closed. The parking and entrance to the rooms are on the side away from the road, which has only a small frosted window.

The furnishings are ok and the bed comfortable. The laundry is effectively unavailable as it is used by the hotel itself until late afternoon and is not to be used after 8 to avoid disturbing the occupants of the next room. The milk (which is universal in NZ hotels for morning tea or coffee) was not replenished on our second morning. Checking the bill later, I discovered we were charged 20 NZD more per night than quoted in the email confirming our booking. Combined with the eccentric design, these irritations left a bad impression on us. We'll look for a better choice next time.

We stayed for 3 nights in March 2005. The accommodation was spacious and nicely appointed though without views of the lake - the units face a road. We were not bothered by road noise and the heating was quite adequate (it was chilly outside). The units are conveniently located and the host was friendly and helpful. Would stay there again.
