Travelling from Glenorchie to Milford Sound you may not want to arrive when all the tour boats have already returned to the harbour. So stopping over in Te Anau is more than a good idea when there are comfortable and peaceful motel rooms available right on the lakefront in Te Anau.
The two room apartments are well-equipped and cosily furbished. Basics for a nice breakfast are provided and during service hours you will always find a friendly person to give you good advice on what to do and where to dine.
If you are not in a hurry you should book the Edgewater Motel for more than one night so that you can relax again after a long day at Milford Sound and enjoy an evening stroll along the nearby lake.

This is a pleasant budget motel. The host and hostess are friendly and very helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with everything needed for self-catering. The laundry facility was great. The room was light and airy with a full window wall across the front. Parking is free. WiFi was a bit slow, but adequate. The bed was comfortable; bath was compact, but clean and linens were excellent. The location is convenient to shopping and dining, and it is an easy drive to the Milford Sound cruises from Te Anau.

Upon arrival the host was friendly and welcoming. He walked us to our room. The room was suitable for what we needed, it was a separate bedroom with kitchenette and lounge area. We enjoy having breakfast and some meals in our room so the kitchenette was ideal. I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed here for one night on way to Milford Sound. Very friendly welcome at reception, and reasonable price ($140/night). Decor in room was old and tired but perfectly adequate. In particular the kitchenette was fantastic with everything we needed and made self catering very easy. The queen bed was a disappointment as it had a huge sag in the middle but we slept okay despite this. Basically it was an unremarkable stay but suited our purposes as we just needed something cheap and basic.

We enjoyed staying here, at the edge of Lake Te Anu, with a perfect position for walking into town, close to shops and restaurants, and the jetty where the boats leave from to visit the Glow-worm caves.
Our room was comfortable, quiet, and the resident proprietor is very good at seeing everything is kept nice, and in welcoming his guests.

Room tip: All rooms are quiet, the motel is not on the road, but at an angle, and is peaceful
