Like many reviewers, when we entered the apartment the view over the lake was wonderful and the sun was shining. The apartment was spacious and very modern with very large windows overlooking the lake.
However, that was the first impression of our 3 night stay. The second thing that hit us was the stale smell of curry or Thai where the people the night before had clearly had a takeaway or cooked an ethnic meal that was still lingering.
We had a 2 bedroom apartment and both bedrooms were small and very heavily decorated which made them feel claustrophobic with heavy bedding. There seems to be no air conditioning and the doors need opening even on a windy day to let in air.
Probably the most frustrating thing was the lack of privacy. Our apartment was on the the 6th floor on the terrace level. This is a communal area where tables and chairs are outside the apartment but visible to all. The communal BBQ means that people from other levels come up to use it and wander past your apartment looking in.
Free car parking is good but internet is not free, why in his day and age!!
There are some impracticalities and for a 2 bedroom apartment there is only one sofa. This was the most expensive accommodation we had during our visit to South Island and was fine but not of the level other people seem to have experienced and certainly not as good as some we stayed at. The other drawback is that it is a 50 minute walk alongside the lake into town, a very pleasant walk but not if it is raining and you certainly wouldn't do a return walk, particularly if it is dark!
Walls are thin and doors slamming were a problem.
All in all, Queenstown is great place to visit but if we returned we would look elsewhere.
