My first impression was one of disappointment. The reviews mostly rave about this place, and driving there we couldnt find it at first. It's a lowslung, longish building next to a sports field, without any signage or obvious place to enter. They do have limited parking under the hotel, but we parked on the road which seemed to be fine. The entrance is also a letdown if you're expecting a "luxury boutique hotel" - The furniture is a very basic white, with pretty much only a pc on the reception desk...it looked a bit temporary to me, but maybe it's supposed to be a modern/spartan look. The rest of the hotel however is nicely furnished. There cant be much more than 20 rooms, most facing the street which while not really busy does have traffic. Now, with most rooms (other than maybe 3 facing the park) facing that street it all depends how light a sleeper you are. All ground floor rooms (other than the few facing the park) have a patio with a couple of chairs and small table are one level below the street, but you can see the gondola if you look up. There is a hedge to block you from people walking by on the sidewalk. So it's sorta kinda a view.
The room we stayed in was nicely decorated (leaning towards modern) with a comfortable bed and we did feel a bit better about the place once we'd settled in. One pet peeve (and it's really minor and irrelevant on deciding for or against this hotel) were the light switches above the bed which controlled a bunch of different things. It was more funny than anything, but it always took pressing 2 or 3 different ones until you finally got the one that controlled e.g. the lighter window shade, or the curtain for the bathroom etc.
There is also limited service available. I think the hours for the reception (which more often than not had nobody there, tho you could ring a bell for assistance) were maybe 7-10. Supposedly you could call a number if you needed assistance. My feeling is that a high-end establishment (and priced as such) should do a bit better. The service we did get was friendly and helpful, so no complaints there. They serve wine and snacks around 5-6pm which was nice, but we found the small sitting area next to reception to be so small as to pretty much always be full. I'm guessing it's a typical thing as a staff member offered to bring wine and snacks to our room, which while nice wasnt quite the same thing.
The location is just a sportsfield (really just a big green field with no noise) away from downtown and so a bit more peaceful, which we liked.
Overall, would we stay if we went back? I think I'd try somewhere else first, but would certainly consider it again.
