“Perfect hotel in a perfect position”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 11, 2014

Sorry for the late review. We stayed here last October with our two friends who now live in Torbay
On the North island. We had an amazing time in this hotel. the rooms were large, modern and spotless with great views over the city. We ate in the breakfast room and the wonderful restaurant. Both were excellent. We also had drinks in the lounge bar... A little quiet and cocktails too strong and not so good!! We soon found the other bar this was much better with a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Room with a view

I can only say all the best about this hotel and Queenstown in general.

The service at this hotel was exceptional, staff were great and went out of their way to accomodate us and this started from when we first stepped into the hotel and continued for a week until our departure, great first impression of the hotel, I honestly wish all the hotel experiences were like this one.

The hotel itself is located in the town centre just off the main strip and walking distance to some great restaurants. Again perfect location with not much noise around. The rooms were spacious and clean and we had a nice lake view from our room on the fifth floor.

The town itself is absolutely stunning, beautiful and well maintained. The restaurants are reasonably priced and the food is great. We enjoyed some great food at the Flame, Fergburger, Jervois Stakehouse (this one is fine dining within the Sofitel), Winnies, Lombardi (this one is part of the St Moritz hotel) and Bella Cucina.

In terms of activities I would recommend a cruise around the lake on the old steam boat, skiing on one of the surrounding slopes or a tour to on of the south islands beatiful nature spots (we took a tour to milford sound, it is a long tour but you do visit some stunning places on the way there).

Overall this is an exceptional hotel and a stunning town. Will definately visit again.

Thank you for the great experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with lake view.

Very luxurious room with spa tub and nice views. The cafe offered nice lunch options; the breakfast buffet was extensive although a bit pricey. The concierges were very mixed. Weonsuk Lee was extremely helpful (thank you) but an older concierge was downright rude to us and the companies we had booked with. It was so bad that when he was the only one there, we went to the Kiwi Discovery centre and booked things ourselves rather than deal with him. Parking is available (valet) but pricey.

Sofitel provided a great location in Queenstown. The room was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more helpful in regards to any of our needs. They helped with directions, restaurant recommendations etc.

He was everywhere: in the lobby making sure guests departed efficiently; coordinating with staff at Reception; then -- there he is -- helping clear breakfast dishes in the restaurant. I asked his name. "Vincent," he said with a smile. I see from other posts that this is the hotel's General Manager, Vincent Macquet. Such presence and exemplary leadership are rare these days. Most hotel managers command while sitting in their offices. Vincent is front and center, taking charge and doing so with s certain elegance and soft-spoken style. The quality of the staff must surely be a product of this impressive professional hotelier. The only question is what Sofitel Corporate should be doing to retain his services in the future.

We spent 5 days at the Sofitel and it was wonderful. The staff was excellent and booked excursions for us. The breakfast was delightful. Proper coffees, buffet, and menu. The chef even brought out daily specials cooked to perfection. (I looked forward to breakfast each day). We upgraded to an upper floor and it included breakfast. Room 514 had gorgeous views with a couple of doors that opened outside toward the city. Separate bedroom, and living room / dining room made for the feel of a small apartment. Top notch amenities and convenient to all the attractions in Queenstown. We enjoyed wine in the winebar (located on the first floor) each night. We even used the business center to view GoPro videos from our paragliding trip. Wasn't inexpensive but it was definitely worth it.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor. Room 514 is a larger room too.
