“Supreme Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2012

I chose the Sofitel partly for its location and partly for that bed. I paid a bit more for this funky suite but it was so worth it!

The highlight of my stay however was the superb service. I was most impressed to find the General Manager Vincent Macquet personally assisting staff and visitors as part of his daily routine. His outstanding service has obviously inspired the entire staff of the Sofitel.

It is rare to find service delivered from the heart. I certainly appreciated the difference. There were too many helpful staff especially in Reception to list!

Breakfast at the Left Bank Cafe was a really lovely start to my day. Nara was wonderful at knowing exactly how I liked my morning coffee.

The room was oh so spacious with all amenities and 7 windows. The spa bath even had a TV! The coffee machine actually made fab coffee.

My room and bathroom were well furnished with modern decor and were spotless.

I have stayed at a number of 5 and 6 star hotels over the past 15/20 years but none would top the exception service of the Sofitel Queenstown. Bravo!

Room Tip: My funky room was on the corner Level 5. It also included some fab amenities like a couple of free d...

My husband and i stayed at Sofitel Queenstown for 9 nights, for business and pleasure combined. Sofitel Australia is one of my favorite brands and i am happy to say the NZ rendezvous did not dissapoint. Our rooms already had soy milk(special request for my lactose intolerant husband) waiting in the fridge, a simple request that so many other properties fail to accomodate.
Whilst they are not perfect, the attitude of staff is what makes up for any little niggles. They are friendly, helpful, polite, and fairly knowledgeable. Service can be a bit slow at times, perhaps due to busy time (?) of the year, but they do deliver.
Menu at the Left Bank Cafe is traditional french affair with NZ produce showcased to advantage. Wine menu could use more geographical variety. Breakfast is a nice spread and they do perfect poached eggs, yummy ommlettes and warm poached plums with yoghurt was my favorite.
Rooms; the most important component of any travellers stay: We were on level 4 for 5 nights with street view overlooking the gondola and level 6 for 4 nights, a definite improvement, with lovely views over the town and the lake.
Rooms are big, spotless and modern with standard sofitel pillow menu, L'occitane ameneites, underfloor heating, spa bath with tv and separate shower. Trust me, every day after snowboarding, a long soak in that spa bath was a lifesaver. Also, my husband loved the inroom espresso machines standard at sofitel. I do wish though, they would have a tea pot and decent cups for tea drinkers like me.
Lespa: My husband & i had a massage & facial and found the quality of product delivery acceptable but not brilliant. Again, the ambience and attitude of the staff is spot on though and it was reasonably priced to while away time when weather was too crap for anything else.
What else: Location is perfect, within walking distance to everything (especially Fergberger!), buses for snow centres leave opposite the hotel.
Main gripe: Internet! a measly 100kb/day was not enough for our business component of travel. We bought a 1G 7day plan but c'mon! Most properties around the world now provide free internet. Time for Accor to catch up.
Overall, it is a lovely property with staff that take pride in thier work, make you feel welcome everyday. Augustine, you are a star!. and when the GM grabs your burgers & fries and delivers them to your room all plated up, you know you've got something special. I'll resonate with other reviwers; it is definately 5 star.

Room Tip: Level 5 or 6 have good views and are above street level

Unless you are specifically wanting a waterfront view, you will not be disapointed with this place. We stayed here in August in a Superior King Room with Spa which was up to the usual impeccable Sofitel quality, it even had a little LCD TV which was set into the wall above the luxuriously deep spa bath and the shower was one of those with multiple heads.

The bed was probably the most comfortable I have ever slept in, in any hotel! All mod cons, you definitely want for nothing. Unfortunately we were given a room at the back of the hotel, with only a road and private homes to look out upon, so although it had a small balcony, there was little point in using it. Having said this, from the location, although very well situated for the town, any views from the front of the hotel would mostly be of town rooftops, as it is not a waterfront property. (although only a couple of minutes stroll to it)

Cannot comment on the gym and spa etc as we didn't use them due to being too busy skiing, the nearest is Coronet Peak (20 minute drive) and the Remarkables (35 minutes). There are so many great places to eat that we also didn't use the hotel restaurant, not even for breakfast, in this case mostly because that was $37 per person whereas "Brazz on the green" did a great full breaky for $17. For a great dinner, I can thoroughly recommend the small Mexican place on Shotover street (near Bombay Palace) (not Sombrero's) we didn't have to book, but get there early as they were soon full and turning people away.

Very reasonable valet parking at only $15 per night. My only gripe is the faintly ridiculous greetings in French (Bonjour) by any of the staff - pretentious - please stop!

Queenstown is awesome, the whole place has a fantastic charm and great 'apres ski' atmosphere! Even if you don't stay at this hotel, Queenstown is simply the best holiday location in NZ South Island

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room at the front of the hotel, preferably on a higher floor to ensure you m...

We were very impressed with the friendly, efficient service and our room was not a square box. All fittings were of a high quality. Lovely snacks waiting for us on arrival was a nice bonus.

All staff members were very friendly and helpful.

Let me start by saying we didn’t stay at the hotel...but we had dinner here and it was SPECTACULAR. If you get the chance to dine here i cant recommend it highly enough. the food is amazing, wine list excellent, ambiance, decor and service is impeccable. We had a table right in front of the fireplace which was so nice and warm (and romantic!). The concierge and restaurant staff are wonderful and we intend to stay here next time we travel to Queenstown. I'm sure the menu is seasonal, however I’m certain it would be great year-round. Best French onion soup i have ever had, Green Lip Mussels = PERFECTION.

My recent stay at this lovely hotel was a very good choice in terms of its location, as it is right in town with short walking distance to most of the places of interest. The included breakfast served in their quaint French cafe was satisfactory. On top of that, all the hotel staff are professional, friendly, helpful & knowledgeable, offering us an upgrade to a suite with views of The Remarkables for a minimum charge, helped arranged the rental car from Hertz, organized a search for our camera SD card when we reported it lost after we got home, & had it returned to us when they found it! We're truly thankful and so glad we chose to stay at Sofitel again!

Room Tip: Request for a room facing the town with view of The Remarkables and on a higher floor.
