“Beautiful room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2013 via mobile

Stayed for two nights in a superb room overlooking the town and gondola. Room was beautifully fitted out, bed was comfy and facilities were good. Nice and quiet place. Breakfast was superb, try the omelette but be prepared not to eat for the rest of the day. Host was very helpful, perhaps a little "in your space".

My wife and I spent several nights in the honeymoon suite (which has an incredible view of the mountain and the Skyline Gondola) and we could not be happier. Ailey, the proprietor is just so sweet, helpful, accommodating, and all of the above. And my wife could not stop saying how cute Ailey's kids are too. Breakfast was very good and Ailey was just so helpful with what things to do around beautiful Queenstown and helped arrange it all for us in no time, including an amazing wine tour after our charter flight to Milford Sound was cancelled (note that the cancellations are very frequent so plan for the bus tour instead to be safe or, better yet, call Ailey before you book and ask her for help). Not kidding about calling Ailey--she very knowledgeable and will really help direct you on options for tours, things to do, etc. and timing. It's a no-brainer. We wish we had known and called in advance.

Again, very clean, great view, close to town center, and just a gem. We would absolutely do it again. At the end, she even took a photo with us! :-)

Thank you, Ailey!
-Bergin & Amalia

Room Tip: If it's available, spring for the honeymoon suite (even if it's not your honeymoon). Haha

We got a great deal for a room at Central Ridge and didn't realise quite how great until we got there.

From the first minute, Ailey bent over backwards for us, recommending fantastic restaurants, attractions and sights throughout Queenstown. Ailey's breakfasts were always a treat with one of her new and fabulous cakes or creations on offer.

The rooms were clean, modern and genuinely lovely...a 5 star review in their own right...but nothing could compare to the charm, warmth and passion that The very lovely Ailey brings to everything she does.

We decided to book here at the last minute on our way thru Queenstown. Ailey is such a sweetheart. The rooms are clean, perfectly appointed and with lot of room to move around. Ayli immediately made us feel at home; making dinner and activity recommendations and bookings. The inn is just up the block from the busy Main Street--the perfect distance.

I stayed at Central Ridge for one night during a recent spell of hiking in New Zealand. A few days previously I had stayed at Peppers Beacon on the lakeside but chose not to stay there again and looked for a better option.

Central Ridge was a good choice and only one of two hotels I have recently thought of as Excellent.

The things that mattered:

- the hostess (Ailey) is very friendly and efficient, well supported by family and other staff, it was a welcoming environment;

- at $190 a night for a large double bed room, with a good sized bathroom, this represents good value by the expensive standards of Queenstown accommodation;

- the location is excellent - 5 to 8 minutes walk from the centre of town and a pleasant walk at that (the walk along the lake front from lakeside hotels might seem nice at first glance but can be very exposed - and many would be longer);

- the room I had (T2) was roomy and really comfortable with a great sense of light and airiness with a pleasant view across the town (see picture attached) - NB I suspect only rooms T1 and T2 enjoy this particular aspect;

- I had a continental breakfast which included a small choice of cereals but with freshly cut fruit salad and yogurt followed by toast with Ailey's home made jam and marmalade which were both excellent (the breakfast room is also light, airy and a pleasant space to sit at start of day);

- my package included free WiFi;

- Ailey also offers a transport service to the airport (which is a margin cheaper than using a cab).

NB: It is better to book direct rather than through Wotif. The price looks the same but the former includes the price of the continental breakfast, the latter does not.

Room Tip: T2 was a very good room.

This hotel gave me the equal best communication of any other accommodation in New Zealand.

By email, you get the impression of a vast staff catering to your individual attention. On site, you realise that Ailey is the power behind the hotel and ensures everything runs like clockwork for her guests. Nothing is too difficult and her connections with the local restaurants and tour companies ensures a delightful stay. This extends to personal touches, like delicious home cooked food at the breakfast table.

The location is ideal, within minutes walk of the centre of town and the Botanic Gardens.

Our room was spacious, comfortable, extremely private and very well equipped.

I just wish I'd had the time to stay longer. I definitely plan us to return when we can.
