“You get to see the elusive kiwi!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

And you kind of have to see at least one kiwibird if you're going travel to New Zealand. The rest of the park is fun-- a collection of wonderfully exotic birds you might not pick out on a birdwatching tour. Generally, lots of fun, but your ticket is more or less a donation to the place.

“A great experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2013

As you walk past the Gondola, please make a stop at the Kiwi Birdlife Park you will not be disappointed. This is preservation of NZ's natural fauna at its best and came from inspiration from a nature-loving kiwi family who run it to this day. The audio kits provided means you have around 24 stops along your journey, all with informative commentary at each stop. The Bird Show and nature talk are not to be missed. Your entry fee pays for much needed breeding programs, so make sure not to miss it.

“Informative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

We really enjoyed our afternoon in the park, the staff were freindly, helpful and well informed. We learnt a lot and it was easy to get around and see The Kiwi Bird and the rest of their birds etc, we were able to combine a trip on the cable car as it was right next door to the park.

“An unexpectedly good nature experience.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

In NZ South Island, visiting a place with nature in cages would seem odd when there is so much wilderness all around. So this turned out be a pleasant, unplanned surprise - we discovered it by accident while heading to the gondola. The park itself is small, and entry is quite expensive considering the size of the collection. However it is generally a beautifully maintained, well designed experience. The kiwi houses were a bit too dark to properly appreciate the birds, but the tuatara exhibit was great. The displays are quite basic - this is not the Singapore Zoo - and a lot of the birds are simply in wire cages. The settings amidst trees and greenery makes up a bit for this, but with a bit more effort this could be a much better experience.

We are delighted that you stumbled upon our little park and enjoyed your visit. All of our native species are here as part of managed programs such as national breeding programs, breed for release programs and rehabilition programs for injured animals. Thanks for taking the time to visit us as these programs are funded by visitor admission, donations and a portion of souviner sales. We do strive to keep improving our standards so thanks for your review as the more visitors that we get in, the more we can do for conservation.

“expensive”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

Very dissapointed with this exhibition. we have been to several birdlife parks over the last few years and due to the cost of admission we were hopfull to spend the day, unfortunately we left bitterly dissapointed. The cost of admission wasnt justified. on a positive note, the staff were vey friendly.

We are sorry you were disappointed by your visit to the park. We do recommend that visitors go to a kiwi feeding (15min), a conservation show (30min) and do an audio tour of the park (1 hour). This requires spending nearly 2 hours in the park. We wish you could have voiced your disappointment during your visit and our friendly staff would have tried to address any issues. All of our conservation efforts are funded by admission fees, donations and a portion of souvenir sales so thanks for visiting the park.
