“Bad Plumbing”

Hertford

Upon arrival we were shown to Room 311. My wife immediately tried the bathroom and then reported that the hot tap in the bath did not work. We contacted front desk and a young man came and said that the shower head worked, but not the tap so that was OK. Then whislt he was there we showed him that the patio door was unable to be locked. (this room was on ground level). We were promised that both items would be sorted. One hour later the tap could not be fixed (no plumber) and the patio door was now being locked with a length of wood as a lock. After another complaint we were upgraded to a flat. FINE, but security light was not working on stairwell. This was reported, but never fixed. Not a place to stay if you can get somewhere else.

We reserved a room (pretty expensive) in August 2007 for December 31 2007 - 4 months in advance!

When we checked in we got a room that in any self respecting hotel would have been a maid closet and right up on the main stairway and above the hotel bar. The hotel refused to move us anywhere - even when we offered to pay a bit more.

In addition, the toilet would not work and it took them several hours to get it fixed. No hair dryer, no reading lights, etc.

All this for about $150!

Totally unacceptable. Do not book this hotel!

I stayed here Oct 2007 in a one bedroom condo. Very spacious but extremely COLD. The place never did heat up the entire 4 nights we were there. We continually ran the dryer just to warm the place up! The shower curtain was absolutely disgusting with black mold, and no hot water one morning. The maintenance guy did show up within 10 minutes which was good. Very pretty views, but need a car or take the bus. The unit could have used some new dishes, but otherwise it was ok.

We stayed here for 4 nights in August 2007. The location of the hotel is one of the best in Queenstown for views. Not so good for those without a car, as it's about 3km out of the city on quite a high vantage point, one would need public transport or a cab to get there from downtown. We stayed in the hotel part and had wonderful views over the lake & mountains, however the hotel itself is very tired. Staff are reasonably friendly. A better hotel for the under 40s who want something better than a backpackers but still want reasonable value.

What we really loved about this place is that it is away from the hustle and bustle of queenstown. We needed a quiet break from all of that coming from Auckland. It was extremely peaceful and if we wanted to go into town we could drive or catch the bus (we did both). Though we were not in a lake view room we could still see over the hotel to the mountains and some of the lake. The food was excellent the room was spacious and very clean and the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We love coming to Queenstown and when we do come back we would definitely stay at the Aspen on Queenstown.
