“Great hotel in heart of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

Very nice hotel in the heart of Queenstown. We only spend one night there on our way to Wanaka for some skiing and hiking but the staff was very helpful. The room was spacious and had an amazing view. If we had more time we would have spent another night. It was a bit pricy though.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a good view of the lake.

This hotel is in a fantastic location. Very close to restaurants and shopping facilities. The staff at this hotel were more than accomodating with our requests during our stay. Would recommended this hotel to anyone.

Thoroughly enjoyed Queenstown!

Room was beautifully furnished and smaller than expected. Although it did come with balcony.

There was an air of tired/dated on our level from the lift to the doorway.

Staying on level six, you'll be greeted by beautiful panoramic views over the lake and village with the incredible Remarkable's as the backdrop.

What can I say? In life, sometimes there are trade-offs'. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. Preemptive service too.

Walk around the lake, ski, jet boat, ice skate, the adventure options seem endless.

Great boutique shopping, excellent restaurants and fabulous service.

Enjoy the great open fire at The Lone Star or kick back on the water front with blankets and out door braziers.

Great place to catch up, over a glass of New Zealand's central Otago Pinot Noir.

In the heart of winter, this quaint village has soul!

We had stayed here for 2 nights and asked particularly for a room facing the lake. We were lucky to get one and had an amazing time! The balcony opened out to the street beyond which is the pier and the lake! There are numerous restaurants around the area and some fantastic places to shop!

The room was comfortable and clean and room service was excellent!

Stayed one night and thought it was a nice hotel...nothing flash but you get what you pay for. The hotel is located within walking distance to everything. If you're lucky enough to get a lake view the views are spectacular. The breakfast was tasty with a great selection to choose from. $15 per day for parking is a bit rich.

Hi Jshakers,
Thank you for your review, overall it is great to see you enjoyed your time with us in Queenstown and we thank you for sharing your thoughts on Tripadvisor.

In regards to the parking, with our central in-town location parking is extremely limited. As many of the surrounding streets close to the hotel are either metered or have strict time limits the $15 parking charge is actually cheaper than using a public service. We believe the price is great value as this also includes a valet service however we have certainly taken your comments on board for future reviews of this charge.

We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.
Kind regards,

We chose Crowne Plaza mainly because one of our travel companions had problems with her knees and couldn’t walk far or up hills. This ended up being the best location for us because the hotel is right in the centre of everything and also no stairs or hills. The staff were all really lovely. In fact more than lovely they were delightful, so warm, welcoming and professional. They couldn’t do enough for you and best of all it was genuine. I haven’t experienced such great service in a hotel for a long time. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. The beds were a tad hard so not as comfy as I would have liked but the linen was nice. The wifi was fast and reliable and as long as you are a IHG member its free! Breakfast was included and I wasn’t expecting much but I was impressed. Valet parking was $15 a day and you could use it as many times a day as you like. A wide range of food and beverages that catered to different cultural and dietary needs was offered. All in all a great hotel, with lovely staff in the perfect location. Not only would I stay again I would happily recommend to friends and family.

We stayed here for six nights and had a lake view room on second floor which had lovely views. The room was typical of a Crowne Plaza, clean and functional. The bed was very comfortable. As other reviews have said the location is excellent. The breakfast offers a good selection, however doesn't seem to change from day to day. They will cook eggs or an omelette fresh but the service is very slow. Expresso coffee is available but again the service is slow and you need to request a second cup as they don't ask.

We ate at the restaurant at night on a number of occasions and the food is very good fine dining. I have reviewed the Three-Sixty restaurant separately.

Although we had some less than satisfying experiences with some elements of the service we had a very enjoyable stay. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful, the restaurant meals of a high standard , the room was well maintained and comfortable. We would definitely stay here again.

Management needs to put a bit of extra work into staff training. At breakfast we were told to sit at a table that didn't have any cutlery. My husband got up and asked for a knife and he was given one and then I had to go and ask for a knife and fork. The staff didn't come to the table to set it properly. We asked for an extra coffee (we weren't offered one) and they brought two coffees on bread and butter plates instead of saucers.

There is a pillow menu in the room. As I got into bed at about 9:00 pm I found the pillows too flat so I called the desk and was told by the night reception that the pillow menu had been discontinued because they were reviewing the policy. So the next evening I went to the desk after dinner at 8pm and asked for two medium pillows from the pillow menu to be sent to our room. Within 10 minutes the pillows arrived, but they didn't have any pillow slips.

These issues probably reflect that a lot of the staff seem to be employed for the season and are therefore relatively short term employees, but the standard does fall short of what you expect from the Crowne Plaza brand.

Room Tip: Choose a lake view room.

Hi dulcieb,

Firstly, thank you for your time completing the review. Overall it is great to see you enjoyed your time with us, the location and friendliness of staff.
Thank you for sharing your comments with us in regards to your breakfast experience. There is absolutely no excuse for the shortfalls you have mentioned and these will be addressed with the team. We have seen some fantastic improvements in our breakfast scores recently, obviously there is still some work to do this in this area so thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Likewise with your pillow delivery, I do apologise this wasn’t a seamless process. We are again following up with our team and can ensure you these areas will be perfect for your next visit.
Thank you again for feedback, I greatly appreciate your time in providing this to us.
Kind regards,

Reinier H. Eulink
