“Thoroughly enjoyable stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2009

Excellent hotel with great location. Walking distance to town.
The rooms are on the large side. As long as you stay on the higher floors you will get a view of the lake.
The rooms are well equipped with large screen TV, ever so comfy beds. Very quiet, quality hotel.
Car parking was $10 a day.
Would certainly love to stay here again.

This is a very nice hotel well located a few blocks from the center of town. The lobby is very nice, and our lakefront apartment room was beautiful, with a gorgeous view. The heat in our room did not work, which we did not realize until the middle of the night when the temperature dropped and we found ourselves shivering under the blanket. We called about it the next day and they offered to change our room, but at that point we were all unpacked and settled so instead opted for the (very effective) space heater they brought. We had a very nice dinner at the restaurant downstairs. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel as long as the heat works in your room!

Stayed on this property during July 2008 as part of a 6 day stay in Queenstown. Originally I had booked a suite (as I had access to cheap rates travelling with friends who worked at Accor Hotels). However, upon arriving, I decided that the suite (whilst fantastic) was not needed - and I'd rather spend that money around the town instead.

The staff were very accommodating towards this request - in addition to many others. The rooms (standard) were all very well furnished, had excellent amenities along with brand new flat screen TVs.

Service was exceptional - a friend threw up in the room, late in the night after some drinking adventures. Staff were extremely quick to respond and cleaned up the mess with good humour. On other small requests - staff were very flexible, quick and gracious.

We were very happy during our stay and throughly recommend this hotel to anyone.

  • Liked — Everything - service, staff, smiles
  • Disliked — The walk up the hill to return to the accommodation

We were very pleased with the St. Moritz hotel - great location and
excellent staff. We loved the view of the lake and we easily could walk to shopping, restaurants, etc. The staff was very attentive and available. They nicely accommodated all of our needs – changing rooms, showing us to operate the washer/dryer and changing the dates of our excursions due to rainy weather.

We did the Milford Sound excursion with Real Journeys and took the fly back option – it was beautiful. We did a ½ day wine tour with Appleton Tours and that was a great experience. We also enjoyed the Gondola and dinner show.

  • Liked — The lake views and a washer/dryer in the room
  • Disliked — Avoid rooms above the bar due to smokers on the bar patio.

Very mixed feelings.

The whole area is in a bit of a financial crisis slump, and it probably effects the atmosphere at the hotel.

The positives, good location close to the main pier, A bit of a hill but not as bad as previous reviewers may have indicated. The bed was comfy and we booked a deluxe room which was large.

The negatives: The deluxe room was on the top floor above the main door. The lift however went to the floor below and a flight of stairs up.

Paying for parking when there was no valet service at the time of arrival was a bit odd. But an extra money making venture.

The noise was incredibly bad. Being under the roof over the parking and level with the road made for constant irritating noise. The people checking in bounced off the roof and the people on the room was level with the window and noice came straight in. Double glazing would have helped. A lakeside view may be shielded from the noise but was a lot more expensive.

The other thing that annoyed me was that we paid for a rate that supposedly included a $65 lunch hamper. On checking out they tried to charge us for the hamper, but were only going to charge $35. Seems like a case of false advertising on the value of the package. I would have thought the hamper was really only $35 value so I guess I feel like were were overcharged $30 on the package.

We have a loyalty/discount card for this chain and stay extensively at hotels of the chain in asia. So we can comment on the comparative value of the meal in the restaurant. It was actually quite good and of a reasonable value. The view from the restaurant was good.

Wife and I stayed here for a week while in Queenstown, payed the "guaranteed lowest internet rate."

Positives:

-Decor: very modern, and hip, but comfortable and cozy-lobby fireplace, fur chairs, soft lighting and colors.

-Restauant: great food, resonably priced, excellent view of the lake and mountains. excellent breakfast. Great bar, with funny bartender who loves to improvize and try new drinks...

-Rooms: warm, extremely comfortable beds, nice TV's, recycling containers w/ trash, modern baths.

-Amenities: cool gym; coin laundry very convenient; lobby full of old National Geographic mags (unique touch)

-BEST OF ALL: awesome staff: so, so helpful in making reservations for activities, helping pick things to do (and avoid). Really, some of the best Ive ever met while traveling.

Negatives:

-None, really.

Watch for: hotel is on a hill, its a steep walk back to the hotel from downtown, but you get used to it after 1-2 days. Some people may have a hard time, though.
