“Good room, poor service and ridiculous WIFI fees... 5/10”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

The rooms were good and spa was great.
But it was quite a walk from town and the WIFI fees were ridiculous, charging $25 a day for WIFI... Would not stay here again, also staff on desk were moody and did not smile...

I appreciate your concerns regarding the internet prices and will forward them to our Senior Management.

With regards to Front Desk staff, I would sincereley request you to contact me either with the name of the team member or a description. We booked this hotel as a secret hotel on Last Minute and were happy with the outcome. The service was OK but we kept to ourselves so didn't need much. It is a nice walk into town, there is a bit of a climb coming back but not an issue, especially if you are walking off a huge dinner! We had room 117 which faces the garden so was nice and quiet. We used the spa upstairs to soak the weary holiday muscles. The bed was king sized and wonderfully comfortable!

Room Tip: Facing the garden!

We stayed here as part of an upscale, small-group tour of both Islands. Sadly, this was the worst of the smallish, boutique-like, service-oriented hotels that we encountered. It is a shame, since the rooms were modern, clean and comfortable. But the management and staff were the least organized, friendly and helpful that were encountered in the ten hotels visited. We did not arrive until 4:30 p.m., yet several of the nine couples had to wait for at least an hour for their rooms to be available. The following day, my wife wasn't feeling well and asked that the room be made up within the next hour or so, in order that she may get back to bed. For the first time ever, we were told that that probably wasn't possible since the maids could not deviate from their schedule -- and they actually did nothing to accommodate us. One of the couples was given a bottle of wine to "compensate" for the reported dirty, moldy bath mat. With the amazing friendliness and good management that we encountered throughout our visit to New Zealand, this hotel stood out as one better avoided. And while it's a ten minute walk to the heart of the town and lake, the return trip up a steep hill is best left for Olympic candidates. Given there are so many fine, boutique hotels to choose from, one should look elsewhere for any semblance of personal service.

Hi SharkFlorida_USA,

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay with us. It is only with your feedback that we are able to review our service standards and review them as required.

I am disappointed to hear about the series of events that you encountered with our Front of the house and Housekeeping team. I sincerely apologize for this lapse in the service as at Millennium we pride ourselves for delivering the optimum guest service which has been lapsed in this instance. I have addressed your concerns with each and every team member to ensure that this does not happen in future.

We offer a dedicated complimentary shuttle service to town which runs every hour on the hour. This is to assist our guests who would like to avoid walking back to the hotel.

I would really appreciate to have you back with us so you can experience the true Millennium service and look forward to welcoming you back.

Kind Regards

Nice large room which appeared to have been refurbished recently. Lareg beds and good size bathroom. The asst manager from Middlesborough was very helpful but overlooked to tell us that the Lord of the Rings trip he organised for us incurred a 1.5% credit card surcharge. I was happy to pay the $10 internet promo but when I checked out the tried to charge me $30 as I had logged in/out 3 times. Luckily the asst manager was on duty to correct this as the young lady was adamant that the charges were correct! Also a bit cash grabbing to charge for the car park. This grab cash from the tourists attitude will put people off using you. So a nice sleep/stay was rather spoilt by the extra charges that seem to me to be unnecessary. Would have given excellent rating apart from the annoyances mentioned above. Why is it that most smaller hotels/motels can provide free in room wifi & no parking charges but the Millenium wants to charge for any little extra it thinks it can get away with?

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room overlooking the garden as the rooms on the outside face busy roads

Hi 68IanM,

Thank you for your feedback on your stay us.

We are glad to know that you enjoyed your stay and apologise for the inconvenience caused due to internet charges. We do not included incidentals like internet and car parking in our price hence our room rate is very competitve. We cater to different clientele and not all of them wants to use Car Parking and sometime internet facility during their stay.

We sincerely appreciate your comments and hoping that you will choose us on your next visit.

Stayed for 3 nights. Located on a steep hill, however there is a complimentary shuttle that runs every hour. Spacious room with comfortable bed. Spacious bathroom with good shower. Room amenities include fridge and coffee maker. The hotel was running a promotion - Wifi for 10 NZD for 24 hours. Breakfast buffet was good, although one would have expected a larger selection of fresh fruit. The hotel has a gym; there is also a running trail along the lake.
The room safe was an old fashioned one requiring a key to be picked up from the reception (probably upon paying a deposit) - the inconvenience probably deters most guests from using it. The ventilation system was loud. Housekeeping left some to be desired: toiletries were not replenished and the toilet was not cleaned.

A bit disappointing. Typical large hotel. Be careful when you compare prices. We had to pay for the car parking and $25 for wifi. They have a complimentary wifi in the lobby which lasts about 10 minutes.

Hi GraRob,

Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay with us.

Our prices have always been competitive and not many hotels in Queenstown (of our size) offer internet or Car Park included in their room rates. After receiving comments on internet prices, we are currently running a promotion where guest can purchase 500 MB of data over 24 hours for $ 10.00. this promotion is valid for February only and will be reviewed again for extension again.

We hope that this will not deter you from choosing Millennium Hotel Queenstown again.

Kind Regards

This is a very good hotel with very attentive and pleasant staff and very comfortable rooms. I would definitely recommend. The only slight drawback is the steep hill to get to the Hotel from town, however there is a shuttle bus every hour.

Room Tip: Groundfloor rooms are quiet and within easy distance for facilities
