I thought I'd paid extra for a better room but there wasn't much of a view. The room itself was large but average. Bathroom smelled and wasn't that clean. No shoe cleaning kit (there was a black tie dinner at the conference so shoes could have done with a buff), room service breakfast was very average and not well presented, second day no refill for shampoo, room service order card or coffee. Gave up on the breakfast and went elsewhere. Room was freezing on arrival and the heater took a long time to take the chill off. Lots of little things not quite right. Wouldn't go back in a hurry.

Stayed for 4 nights in autumn as a couple, 1 bedroom.
Staff was friendly and efficient, and we were checked in quickly. The hotel itself is very clean and well maintained, and free parking is always a plus. Its away from the town center as we prefer to steer clear of the noise, and its got a great view of the lake. If you haven't rented a car, its only a 15-20 minute walk from the town center, but the uphill walk back to the hotel might bug you after a while.
The room itself was very clean (me being a clean freak) and enough space for to not feel cramped in. The bathroom has alot of space though. There is a heater that worked really well, so during the night it was actually quite comfortable. Another little surprise were bathrobes! My girlfriend loved that. The beds were great i thought, no issues there. Room maintenance was what you would expect, they did all the right things as we got back each day. We didn't use their gym or pool so can't say anything about that.
Overall highly recommended for those that are looking for a great quality 4 star hotel, without having the need to pay through the nose.
Oh, if there was any downsides, I would say that I didn't want to use their wifi as it was too expensive, and same goes with their restaurant - you can find great tasting food for cheaper in town.

We got a discount on the room, so weren't expecting too much from it but it was perfect - large, well styled, lovely bathroom and even a (tiny) view of the lake out of the window (if you craned your neck). The staff were friendly and happily booked us onto a jet boat trip. The only odd things about the hotel was that the pool was half indoor/half outdoor and the bedrooms were in different buildings to the main body of the hotel, requiring outdoor access - this was fine in April, but may be a bit too cold to brave in winter!

First the good:
I had sent an email ahead to the management over at the Heritage prior to our stay to confirm our booking in a lakeside suite. The email also mentioned we would be celebrating our 10 year anniversary in NZ. Upon arrival the lovely staff had left some nice fudge in our room and a card congratulating us on our anniversary. This was a lovely gesture.

One night when my other half wasn't feeling too great and it was raining, we had a horrible dinner experience from Pedro's House of Lamb. We decided to throw most of it out which left us a bit hungry. We decided to order some room service from the hotel. The food was great, although the portions quite small for the price. Especially the Salmon Gravlax (absolutely delicious, but 4 pieces of salmon and half a boiled egg with some sprouts is hardly worth $16).

The walk up the hill isn't actually as bad as people say. Yes, it can be a bit challenging on a full stomach, but it's also a great way to let your dinner settle and get some exercise. The walk is gorgeous with some amazing views. A little side path takes you through a forest type hill walk. Quite nice actually. They also have buses or cabs you can order if you really can't be asked to walk up.

Some things to keep in mind when staying here:
Part of the other reason I had contacted the Heritage prior to our stay, was because I read reviews where people mentioned the noise around the hotel. I'm quite a light sleeper, so I wanted to make sure we wouldn't be put near the road, pool or bins. The Manager assured me he would get us a room with the least amount of noise. The other rooms must be pretty bad with noise, because we were placed right next to the road which had quite a few cars going over it, even late at night.

The Heritage Queenstown seem to pride themselves on a great sleeping experience and even have a little pamphlet on their beds and pillows. To be truthful, the bed is horrible and the pillows not much better. Waking up every morning with a sore back and neck, this was certainly not one of the good experiences in the hotel.

Even in late Autumn you will still get sand flies and mosquitoes here, the rooms don't have any fly screens and they get quite warm. Even with Aircon on. We tried to have the door open a bit to have the fresh air come in, but I ended up with more bites than I can count. The rest of the holiday we had to have the door and windows shut, which made it hard to get to sleep.

We had the breakfast buffet included in our price. I would recommend not to do this and find some lovely breakfast in town (specifically Vudu Cafe). The breakfast was lukewarm and very average in flavor. Honestly, not bad.. just very average.

Room Tip: Lakeside wing has great views onto the lake. Nice spacious rooms with laundry machine and kitchen

We were two couples travelling to Queenstown for a long weekend , we stayed in a two bedroom apartment , that had every amenity we could think of including a cosy fire. The balcony opened out to a beautiful view of Lake whakatipu. It was stunning. They have a fantastic indoor outdoor pool, a fantastic breakfast in the dinning room. The bus stops across the road if you need it otherwise there was car parking , on memory I don't think there was a charge. It was June last year when we were down there and it was cold, aroundd - 1 Celsius, but still lovely sunny days. Would recommend . The staff were also great.

Room Tip: Try and get one overlooking the lake

We have stayed here before many times and will stay again. Highly recommend to couples or families. Love the spa and indoor/outdoor pool, fireside casual dining, best coffee in Queenstown, comfortable refurnished room with shower and bath. Staff were friendly and efficient everywhere. Can't wait to come back. S and R

Room Tip: Forest Wing has mountain and lake views and is quiet.

A mixed review for this hotel. After checking in we were given very poor instructions on where to park our car, and talking to other guests they suffered the same fate. There is an underground car park but that was not made clear and we ended up driving up the road and had to come back and ask for instructions. Our room was lovely, it was ANZAC day and we were left ANZAC cookies in the room. Nice. On returning home we wanted to sit on our balcony and enjoy the view, but the outside light would not work. It was on a timer that automatically went off at 10.00 pm. Silly. Otherwise all was good. The hotel is not in Queenstown itself but if you are prepared to a bit of a hike it is within walking distance.

Good morning Juliemary

Thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback on your recent stay with us at the Heritage Queenstown. It is great to hear that you enjoyed your overall stay with us and enjoyed the ANZAC cookies. With regard to the car-park directions, I have passed on your comments to our Front Office Manager to ensure our staff provide clear instructions. The timer for the lights on the balcony is for guest comfort, my apologies for any inconvenience caused to you. I do hope I can welcome you back to the hotel in the near future.
