“Lakeside rooms are the go”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 13, 2014 via mobile

Beautiful views and lovely king bed. We had our 10 month old daughter , and the room +view were beautiful. Undercover car parking ,accessed from the lift to your floor. There are 3 wings Forrest , one other either garden or waterfall then there is the lakeside. Certainly worth the upgrade to go lakeside, loved watching the paragliding and jet skis on the pristine lake early in the morning with the beautiful scenery as the background . Queenstown is pretty awesome the longer you stay, and just the friendliness of kiwi people complements the beauty of the surroundings.

Just had an over night at the beautiful Heritage. Stayed in a 'Forest Room' which was very quiet and tranquil overlooking the trees and lake. Lovely private balcony that had the sun streaming in by mid afternoon. Room decor relaxing, clean and inviting. Soaked up the sun by the pool for a while - another lovely stay as usual.

Room Tip: Loved the forest room as it was over the back - so no pool / people noise - lovely looking out over...

Very confortable and clean. Expect a 15 minutes walk to go downtown and a hill on your way back. There s an indoor parking, a small gym (cardio machines) and a small pool and spa to relax. The service is gentle an quick when you need it. I would recommand it.

One of the most beautiful vistas I've had the pleasure to gaze at from a hotel room. Our Lake view room was great. Everything was perfect; the pool, reception service, housekeeping, room service. We will return to this beautiful town and definitely stay at the Heritage again. Perfectly positioned on the lakeside within walking distance to the town. The elevation gives the hotel the luxury of superb views, I was mesmerised by the blueness of the lake and the enormity of the mountain ranges from our room and balcony. Didn't want to leave. Also 'no problem' reservation service when I had to change my dates due to medical treatments, highly recommend the Heritage chain in NZ.

Room Tip: Lakeside is a must.

Good afternoon FitzySyd, thank you for taking the time to offer your feedback on your recent stay with us at the Heritage Hotel in Queenstown. I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay and that you were able to see the beautiful colour change in the lake from a recent landslide in Dart River at the top of Lake Wakatipu. We stayed here twice in in a four day period of time. We stayed two nights, checked out for a night so we could go on the Overnight Milford Sound Cruise, and then checked back in for our last night in Queenstown.

We booked Deluxe Lake View Rooms for all three nights. The first two nights we had an AMAZING view. We were in the Lake Building on the third floor and had unobstructed views of Lake Wakatipu. However when we checked back in for the third night they put us in the Forest Building, where we had obstructed views of the lake. You had to go out on your deck and crane you neck to look around the walls, trees, and building on the hotel to see the water or stand on the chair in the room to look out the window over the deck to see the Lake. We called to complain and were told that since it was physically possible to see water, yes it was considered a Lake View Room and if we wanted to switch rooms we would have to pay an incremental $80 to move back to a studio room in the Lake View building. The response from Natasha at the hotel front desk was cold and brisk and tainted our feeling about staying here and led us to leave it only an Average rating as opposed to Excellent. They should define the rooms with only a partial view as a “Partial Lake View” and charge less money for it to avoid this frustrating and disappointing situation.

The rooms were very nicely appointed and on the first two nights we loved our stay there – eating breakfast on the large semi-circle balcony overlooking the lake. In the forest wing the balconies were square and smaller.

The hotel is up the hill about a 15 minutes walk from the center of Queenstown (5 minutes of the walk is straight up hill! Though since we ate so much ice cream at Patagonia the walk probably did us good.) This also means the hotel is a little more secluded and quiet compared to the other hotels right in the middle of town. You can also take the city Connectabus from town to the hotel. One note, we tried to take the bus to the restaurant Vknow in Fernhill one night, however unless you are standing out on the road the bus will not stop in the pull in are in front of the hotel where it will for dropping people off (the hotel is listed as an official stop on the bus map) . The bus drove right by because we were waiting in the lobby! We ended up taking a cab and walked back from dinner.

There are lots of bugs here (not the fault of the hotel, more a statement about the South Island), we made the mistake of leaving our door open at night and the room filled with bugs.

The pool was not heated, so when we went for a swim it was too cold as it was windy, so we ended up staying in the hot tub the whole time, which was just warm.

Room Tip: Buyer Beware - if you want to enjoy a view of the lake you need to specify that you need to be in th...

Absolutely loved the spaciousness and chic modern décor to this resort hotel. Lakeview rooms are well worth the upgrade.....spectacular views. Concierge (sorry can't remember his name)was respectful and patient with all my questions! Convenient and wonderful to have the washer/dryer right in the unit.

We stayed in 2 adjacent rooms. Booked through wot if. Unfortunately, no lake view rooms were available and we had the view facing the trees at the back. It's not that great.

They were very accommodating. We settled down in the evening near the bar for drinks and although the kitchen was closed they still whipped up some chips for us when we asked.

Note that the spa pool closes at around 8 or 9pm and you can not use it after (we tried and were told to leave).

Overall it's a good place but is a bit of a walk into the city centre if you need to go there. we had a rental so were fine. Alternatively, there's a bus which you can purchase tickets for and hop on.

Beds were very comfy! And facilities were well maintained and clean.
