“Perfect in every way.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2014

We stayed in the Kawarau room which overlooked the mountain and gardens. The pet sheep had names and came to great us when Amanda the host called them. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we so enjoyed our few days in their lodge. We enjoyed wine with both Amanda and John and sat chatting and laughing with them. We would not hesitate to recommend a visit if in the area and feel sure you will not be disappointed .So sorry to leave as they made us feel like real friends.

We finished our honeymoon in this lodge and it was perfect. We didn't want to leave. The view from the rooms on the hill is absolutly breath taking.
The hosts, Amanda and John, are the best one that we met.
The daily wine testing with John is a very welcoming moment.

Without a doubt the most fabulous place in the whole of New Zealand to stay. Amanda & John have exceptional taste. The rooms are decorated tastefully and they provide items you would never anticipate. Our bathroom had a feature stone panel. Beautiful. We stayed in the Kawarau room which looked over the manicured gardens and hills to the rear. Amanda cooks amazing breakfasts and we ate a 3 course dinner booked in advance which was nicer than any other meal we had elsewhere. Wine tasting with John was also informative and enjoyable. We would return to New Zealand just to stay here!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Stay for as long as you can!!!!

there cannot be any better hosts in New Zealand than Amanda and John. From the time we arrived until we left, after a three night stay, we were made to feel like members of the family. As described by others the rooms and facilities are second to none but the thing we both remember is the friendly chats we had on a range of subjects cricket (John once go Geoff Boycott's wicket); wine - extensive tastings of Pinot Noir; NZ history; rugby (we watched the NZ France game); families - the list goes on. We met some really nice people on our NZ trip but none topped Amanda and John

Room Tip: All the rooms are wonderful!

We stayed here in November. Our bedroom was lovely, huge bed, wonderful views, and the spotlessly clean bathroom huge white towels and a spa bath. There are home made biscuits and tea and coffee making facilities left out on the landing, and you genuinely feel welcome to use the big comfortable sofas in the sitting room. We very much enjoyed sitting drinking wine in the garden with Amanda, and left after three days feeling we'd made two new friends.

Had a great stay in the Country Lodge with hosts who felt like members of the family but the one's you really like! Nothing was too much trouble and all their recommendations on places to see and where to go were spot on. Being in the company of a cricket loving Kiwi was refreshing after all those gloating Aussies (apologies to our American cousins who just don't understand the game).

The rooms were spacious and very comfortable and the food was great. Amanda looked after us royally even preparing meals after our late and unexpected arrival! The lodge is located in a beautiful setting and we will return one day in the not too distant future.

After spending five weeks touring Australia and New Zealand, little did we know that we were saving the best for last when we arrived at the Queenstown Country Lodge for a three-night stay before heading home. The place itself is a magnificent modern lodge set upon many, many beautiful acres in the quiet New Zealand countryside, yet you are only a very short 15 minutes away from all the downtown attractions. Amanda and John, your hosts, keep the grounds looking like one big beautiful garden. The rooms are lovely with magnificent views of the surrounding area with sheep, cattle and deer grazing nearby. The house is set up as a lodge so that you can enjoy the downstairs rooms to watch TV, or to quietly read or perhaps the patio just sit outside and simply enjoy nature.
While there, every evening John hosted a “wine tasting” that featured a variety of fine New Zealand wines with John providing his ample knowledge of each and the Kiwi vineyard from which it came. During this event Amanda offered up some of the most delicious canapés you ever put in your mouth, after which you questioned whether or not you really needed to go off to dinner. Speaking of which, John and Amanda offer an unusual option. You can sign on for dinner at the lodge and we would highly recommend that you do so. Amanda is a gourmet cook by any measure and she will offer you a variety of dinner options. We had the rack of lamb and it was one of the most remarkable, memorable dinners we have experienced… anywhere.
All of the things you come to expect from a B&B are top of the mark here. The rooms are clean, modern, comfortable and quiet. Your breakfast will be a “full breakfast” and you will have several choices. Amanda’s culinary skills are not limited to dinner. Your hosts are anxious to help you out with reservations for all the local attractions and they will graciously answer all of your questions, provide directions or opinions and they are anxious to help you with anything else you might need.
You will do yourself a favor by choosing the Queenstown Country Lodge for your stay.
