“An exceptional hotel in a magical city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2013 via mobile

I unreservedly recommend the Queenstown Hilton! It's located a 5 minute drive from Queenstown airport on the edge of the lake. It's a beautiful location but be aware it's a 10 minute drive into Queenstown itself. Most visitors are touring in a rental car and there's free parking so it's not an issue. The rooms are very well designed - huge bathrooms, gorgeous beds, great views and a nice lounge area near the large windows. The hotel has a lap pool and well equipped gym (but why no regular exercise bike? Only recumbent style!?). A lovely breakfast buffet includes a whole range of fresh and healthy options. The staff could not have been more helpful. I can't wait to go back. Only one gripe.... Please provide FREE WiFi!!! $29 for 1 day just leaves a bitter taste on an otherwise outstanding stay.

Although the Hilton is located quite a few kilometres from the town centre, it provides a peaceful site with great views of Lake Wakatipu. The water taxi (NZ$15 for a return ticket) and Connectabus ($8 return) is a convenient form of transport into town. Relatively new, the interior is true to the Maori culture. The rooms are well appointed (tho it could have done with a stereo system to plug in your own iPod or MP3 player like its sister property, the nearby Karwarau Hotel "managed by Hilton") and my room featured its own gas fireplace. Food is excellent especially its breakfast buffet with its wide range of quality offerings, including local jams. The international staff are friendly and efficient. The gym is typical of a large hotel - 6 cardio machines, a couple of Swiss balls and some free weights. Had a very pleasant stay. Only negative would be the extortiately high price of in-room wi fi - 25% of my room rate for 24 hrs usage.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the lake.

Stayed for 5 nights & loved the location outside of the congested downtown area. The food at the Wakatipu Grill was amazing! We ate there 3 times it was too good! The bedding, linen and rooms beautiful but surprised that we had to pay for internet in the rooms, through a trip to the Business center you could use free internet. The spa was fabulous. The lap pool was congested with children and serious swimmers didn't stand a chance. Excellent Concierge se

I thought I would write a review to help people that come to Queenstown, decide on accommodation.
We stayed at the Hilton over Christmas for 12 days.
My wife and I visit Queenstown on average of 4 to 5 times a year, and have been for the past few years, as we simply love Queenstown, and consider it pretty much our second home.
We now always only stay at the Hilton.
Take if from someone that has tried many of the Hotel/Motels and 5 star Accom. in Queenstown.
Do yourself a favour and book at the Hilton, it is the best!!!
We have booked again at the Hilton again this year for my wife’s birthday in March.
And again for my 40th Birthday and Ski season in August.
And a special mention for Annika, she is an amazing lady, she always makes us feel special when booking and returning to the Hilton Queenstown.

Room Tip: I would suggest in order of Cost the Lake View Rooms, If you have a little more to spend then the Re...

Stayed for 3 nights over the Australia Day long weeking at a terrific rate. The "basic" king room was fabulous, spacious and very comfortable with TV/sitting area, gas fireplace (not necessary because Queenstown were having a "heat wave"), a huge bathroom with his/her sinks and a large bath tub. The hotel is large and a bit rambling and has clearly been designed for the "convention" market. Bars and restaurants are very good with a nice feel to them. Staff are very young but provided very slick efficient friendly service. The hotel has an award winning spa (which we didn't have time to try) and a nice indoor heated 25m lap pool.

On the "not quite so good", the gym is glaringly substandard (given how right they've done everything else), and access to downtown Queenstown is not totally convenient. Taxis to town are quite expensive ($45 each way) and the bus service is a bit sporadic. The water taxi is great, but keeps "gentlemen's hours" not starting until midday and only running hourly until 10pm. So it isn't an option for going into town for breakfast and it finishes too early to get you back from night out. That aside though, it's a really nice hotel and I'd recommend.

Dear Richard

Thank you for sharing your comments following your stay at Hilton Queenstown.
I was pleased to see that in general you enjoyed yourselves. It is a shame the various forms of transport into the centre of Queenstown were not satisfactory for you, however, I am glad you enjoyed the many outlets we have within the village.

Thank you again and I look forward to welcoming you back to stay again when you are next visiting Queenstown.

This is a gorgeous hotel. Perfect for a relaxing holiday. Beautiful rooms and service. You'd need to get a water taxi to go into the city, but they go every hour, so no major drama. The hotel also charges for internet - that was a little surprising for a 5-star hotel. But overall - very-very nice place!

We booked for my birthday as a treat on our 10 day holiday down in Queenstown.
We booked the new block they have just finished building in the 2 bedroom apartment.

One note! These are not airconditioned, its ridiculous its so hot we couldnt sleep. As we had children we couldnt leave the door open to cool the room. The sun drenches the apartments in the evenings so its hot all night.

We where a bit disappointed with the rooms, there was no toilet roll holder in the main bathroom and the door didnt lock to the deck so we had to watch it with our 2 year old and make sure she didnt climb over the glass wall on the deck and as mentioned they are not air conditioned.

The rooms where clean, the service was average and slow! But the pool is awesome the kids loved this.

We had dinner at the resturant this was lovely.

The SPA is amazing! This is the best thing the hotel has going for it I spent 4 hours here on my birthday and they looked after me wonderful top notch service.

Room Tip: The apartments are not air conditioned

Dear Myounger

Thank you for your comments following your recent stay at Hilton Queenstown.

The Lakeside Residences were completed two years ago and we have recently added them to our management pool. Yes you are correct there is no air conditioning in these units. This is noted on our website and guests are advised at the time of making a reservation. Generally in this part of the country air conditioning is not necessary, however, we are currently experiencing an unusually hot spell of weather and fans are available upon request.

It was great to see you enjoyed a spa treatment for your birthday.

Thank you again and I do hope you have the opportunity to visit us again sometime in the near future.

Kind regards
Andrew Nisbet
