“Beautiful location and friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2013

Hi,

I am a Hilton Honors Gold member so I have stayed at various Hilton properties. This was definitely one of the best. It is set in a very beautiful setting and the staff is very nice. The room had everything you expect from a Hilton. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is because the breakfast was a bit below the usual standard of Hilton. For example, there was no made to order omelette station. Not that big of a deal in an overall sense, but just the reason why it didnt get a 5 whereas Hilton Bora Bora got a 5 :).

Thanks a lot for a great time.

We booked last minute and were very impressed with our whole stay. We stayed in a standard room which had a small deck and a partial lake view. The room was huge as was the bed (and extremely comfortable). The staff were lovely when we checked in (even at a very late hour) and at breakfast, even though we were late arriving and it was busy, the staff were all extremely pleasant and helpful.
I liked the fact that the hotel is a little out of town - it made for a very quiet relaxing stay.

We're already planning our next stay - loved it !

Had a feeling of being understaffed. Breakfast was too busy. Lots of food unavailable. Chef was run-off his feet. Took far too long to receive an omelette that was overcooked. For a 5-star, this seemed well below par.

Dear Maxamillian

Thank you for taking the time to post your review. I am sorry you were disappointed with your stay.

As the village was full over the festive break, it does indeed create a busy atmosphere.

I do hope you have the opportunity to visit us again sometime when it is a little quieter.

Kind regards
Andrew Nisbet

As one walks around this complex it will sadden you to see uncompleted buildings or specifically leaking rock walls where buildings should be. The service was somewhat upsetting too - there was not enough staff to cater for the amount of guests. The staff seemed frazzled and somewhat moody (especially during breakfast)... You can butter them up (excuse the pun) and find a smile though - if you ask them to have a seat beside you and take a few decent looonnng, slooowww breaths.

Dear Kristy-Ann

I appreciate you taking the time to share your comments following your recent stay at Hilton Queenstown.

I understand your comments regarding the empty section next door. This belongs to another developer so unfortunately is out of our control. However, once this is developed, the overall look will be a huge improvement.

I do apologise you found some of the service upsetting. I understand how important it is that our guests receive a memorable experience during their stay so your feedback is most appreciated.

Kind regards

I spent 8 days at the Hilton Queenstown. It's situated a little out of town, which suited me just fine. Downtown during the holiday season is very hectic. There is a water taxi into town, which is quick and efficient. The resort has fabulous views of the lake, and surrounding mountains. The set up is a bit different with almost a village atmosphere. There are 3 dining options, and plenty of nice places for a beverage. The rooms are large, with a small living area.
Nathan the and the concierge team were fantastic. very helpful and knowledgeable.
I booked well in advance and the price was especially good.

My husband and I recently spent 3 nights at the Queenstown Hilton. We stayed in a deluxe room which had its own deck and a view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The quality of the room and amenities was first class. The Hilton staff were young, helpful, happy and very efficient. This was in every respect a five star experience.

we stayed in the appartments for 3 nights. Family with 3 young kids.
obviously, the hilton is living up to its name. The standard is great, good quality facilities, like the lap pool. Directly located at the lake. It was built not long ago, so everything is spotless new.

Though you have nice views on the lake, we found the location is not optimal, it's on a peninsula 6km away from Queenstown. Quite secluded. If you want to dine outside Hilton facilities, you can only use car.

It's just that we think for the price we paid there are much better deals to do in Queenstown. We were late with booking (stayed around Newyear), so all (imo) nicer places in Queenstown were booked, and Hilton was only option.

The above would have given the Hilton a 3star rating (average) for me (viewed in a 'value for money'perspective), but i'm rounding it down to 2star (poor), because of this:

What really disturbs me with Hilton is that apart from a serious price tag, they still want to squeeze money out of their guests in other ways:
1) internet facility/wifi: $ 14.50 per hour, or $29 per day? Can mgt explain to me that when i book in a cheap motel for $80 per night I get free wifi, and in Hilton i pay $29 per day? We live in 2013 now, and I think internet/wifi should be a standard commodity in any hotel (particularly the topend hotels!), just like hot water out of the tap, or a watercooker.
2) when i checked out and paid with credit card, i got charged 1.5% (this fee applies on all payments with credit card in Hilton apparently; unfortunately there is no other option than credit card in this situation.) . Again, why is a cheap motel not applying this charge?

We had a pleasant stay, but the rating is all based on 'value for money', and like i said, there are better options.

Dear w1mp13

I appreciate you taking the time to share feedback regarding your recent stay on TripAdvisor. It is always great to receive honest feedback as this assists us in improving our overall service and accommodation offering.

I was pleased to see you enjoyed our facilities within the village.
We do have a water taxi and local bus service operating throughout the day and evening for guests to travel into the centre of Queenstown. These both offer a very reasonable rate.

I appreciate your feedback regarding internet and am pleased to advise that we offer complimentary wireless internet in the hotel lobby, however you will find that hotels throughout New Zealand charge for in room internet as this is generally controlled by an external supplier.

The 1.5% credit card surcharge is a directive given to us by the brand to cover the increasing fees that these financial institutions on-charge.
We appreciate that this concept in relatively new in New Zealand hotels, however internationally and in particularly in Australia this fee is widespread. On small balances the amounts may appear small and insignificant; however we are simply streamlining our operation in line with other industries – such as the airlines.
This fee only applies to credit cards and you are very welcome to use cash or a debit card to avoid the fee.

Thank you once again and I do hope you have the opportunity to visit us again sometime in the near future.

Kind regards
Andrew Nisbet
