“Not Sure Why it's There.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2011

This is a new site on the other side of the lake from Queenstown, town itself. The site was a major build for a NZ developer who went into administration before it could all be completed. The banks and the Hilton agreed to finish what was there and try and sell off the remainder land. All this means that there are several views from the hotel of weed-coverd, semi-prepared land and foundations roughly fenced off. There are two hotels operating side by side both administered by the Hilton. The communal interiors and lighting are a little dark and gloomy but the rooms are well appointed and presented. Noisy air handling plant outside was obtrusive if you left the window open on premium rooms with partial lake view. The hotel is not within walking distance of the city centre (8-10km) and a water taxi will cost $10 each way and is not very frequent (hourly). Taxis are expensive at $40-50 to the city and as you can hire a car for $60 a day this is the best option.

Warning: Many of the rooms share a balcony with the neighbouring room with no barrier in between. This feels like a major security/privacy issue.

Room Tip: Ask for as high up in the building and no shared balcony with the room next door.

Hello Pdex

Thank you for sharing your comments regarding your recent stay at Hilton Queenstown.

You are correct with your description of the site so you can imagine how delighted everyone was when the Hilton came on board creating a beautiful village on part of this site.

The appeal of being away from busy downtown Queenstown is huge and thank you for pointing out the ease of transport into Queenstown with the water taxi and complimentary hotel shuttle service operating throughouot the day and night.

I understand your concerns regarding the double balconies in part of the complex; however the option for guests to be able to sit outside and enjoy the spectacular views is truly amazing.

Thank you again for sharing your feedback and we look foward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards
Andrew Nisbet

We stayed at the Hilton for 7 days in a retreat suite and must say the room was very good
Great spa on the deck, comfortable king bed, well appointed bathroom.. the down side is TV is to small to watch in bed, fridge to small, lounge suites ordinary to lounge on, cupboard doors do not close easy. no hot water one morning until midday.
Food - on the first night we decided to eat in after a long drive my wife ordered a garden salad which had yellow iceberg lettuce leafs totally disgusting and i ordered a chicken gourmet pizza which was also disgusting burnt on the bottom and the chicken was that tough it could have been use for a leather boot. very very bad food...........

The second night we went into the Grill fine dinning for dinner i ordered a eye fillet steak and got a rib fillet full of fat my wife ordered slow cooked pork belly which had 4 inchs of fat and 1 inch of meat she could not eat the pork it was gross.. when the waiter asked us how was dinner i told him what was the problem and he went and got the so called Restaurant Manager he then proceeded to my dinner table and presented a slab of raw meat on a plate and began to be little us in front of the whole restaurant very embarrassing and rude. we then just left and said never again will we eat at the Queenstown Hilton.

That was some of the bad, some of the good is 99% of the staff are very helpful. The spa is awesome those girls blew us away with there standard. concierge excellent knowledge, front office very freindly, F&B manager Pierre understanding & helpful but did not credit us as he said.
Overall if the food was up to Hilton standard we would come back and stay again in winter 2012 but Im sorry we wont be paying 1000s of $$$ for sub standard food.

Room Tip: Have a look when you get there don't be in any hurry Queenstown have 100s of really good hotels.

We stayed at The Hilton for our wedding anniversary and were treated like royalty. The
hotel is new, 5 Star, beautifully designed, extremely clean and comfortable and the service is excellent and very friendly, they couldn't do enough for us.
The full breakfast each morning was extremely impressive and the cooked breakfast individually catered to your liking. The variety of food and drinks was extensive and fresh and beautifully presented, and the service wonderful.
Our lakeview room was luxurious including a King size bed, gas fire, huge wall TV, stunning views of Queenstown and lake and a lovely bathroom including seperate bath. The service
included a bottle of pure water and a chocolate each night. The room was serviced each day and spotlessly clean.
We hired a car to travel locally, but the unique village the hotel is in caters for all your needs,
including a Water Taxi Service to and fro from the hotel to Queenstown waterfront each
afternoon and evening.
The restaurants and local pub in the village is 5 star quality food and refreshments. The service is excellent thoughout the whole establishment. We were thoroughly looked after and
felt very special. Facilities include inside pool and spa.
We hope to go back and enjoy the best hotel in NZ we have ever been to.

Room Tip: Lake Front Room with Balcony - the room is luxurious with own bath, gas fire, tv and the views are w...

Just returned from a 2 week tour of Australia and New Zealand. We wrapped up our trip with a 4 night stay at the Hilton Queenstown. I have stayed at Hilton properties in Barcelona, Venice, Fiji, and all over the US, and this was our favorite and best experience yet.
We were most impressed by:
-Service: all of the staff was excellent and really friendly. Tasmin, the Assistant GM took great care of us as did Nathan, the concierge.
-Food Quality: We watched the rugby games at their pub, noodles at Me and Mee, breakfast at the main restaurant and a great dinner was well.
-Room: really comfortable and well appointed. Great View!
-Spa and Pool: very clean and really luxurious

Stayed for a week in October - my 3rd visit to this beautiful alpine town in NZ's South Island.

I highly recommend this property - all standards of service, accommodation and other infrastructure is top shelf - as you would expect from a 5 star property in this chain. The hotel has a lovely NZ authentic feel to it (unlike some of the big chains), and whilst you know you are in a Hilton the personal touches have ensured that the property has an individual Kiwi character that is very charming and welcomeing.

Every aspect of our stay was great, and our enjoyment was enhanced daily by the efforts of each and every staff member we interacted with. Special thanks to Concierge Nathan - who is the 'go to' man with all the answers you need to plan and execute any manner of activity that grabs you in the action capital of NZ.

Some final notes and tips - rooms are very modern (to be expected in a new property of this calibre) and beds are AMAZING so you will sleep like royalty. Views from the rooms across Frankton arm of Lake Wakatipu to Queenstown are panoramically beautiful. Gym, pool are excellent. All eating venues are excellent (see seperate reviews) but a special mention to Matt in Wakatipu Grill for his outstanding waitering - an absolute pleasure.

Look out for package deals which add value to your stay.

This hotel is a delight to stay in whilst visiting Queenstown - highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for the top floor, or in any case for an unobstructed lake view from your balcony. A hire car i...

We stayed here for 7 nights in September 2011. We had an excellent stay and all of the staff were very helpful and friendly. Prior to our arrival Annika Worth had organised an itinerary for us to make the most of all the activities available in Queenstown and it had been emailed to us with a hard copy waiting on check-in. Within a couple of days my partner became ill very quickly and on advice of our home doctor we were advised to attend the hospital to rule out anything serious. The concierge, Sebastian (who is from Chile not France) was exceedingly helpful in providing directions and walking me to the car park to find the car, all the time re-assuring me that things would probably be all right (my partner had parked the car and I didn't know where it was). On our return from the hospital he and Tamsin (front office night manager) arranged for complimentary valet parking and I was busy getting my partner to bed and attending to her needs. The next morning Annika Worth (Front Office Manager) rang to ask if we needed anything and to offer the hotel services. This was such an appreciated level of support, for when you are away from home and something goes wrong it is so nice to have the support available and we appreciated it so much! For the rest of our stay the breakfast staff (Jim and Angela and Stephen) were friendly and welcoming and the range of food was extensive, the Mee and Me noodle bar staff of Robin, Ranjiv and Katie were attentive and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We couldn't say enough about the wonderful stay that we've had here and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering it. This is our second trip to Queenstown and we will be back.

A delight. Genuinely friendly staff. Very comfortable beds. Quiet located away from central queenstown, but easy to access town via water taxi or shuttle. And of course queenstown and the southern lakes provides a spectacular backdrop. I will be back.
