“Unparalleled Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

If I had to pick the most appealing feature of Willowbrook I would have to choose the hospitality. Trish greeted on our arrival, was up early to supply us with breakfast at the time of choosing, and tried to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Hard to believe but she said her husband Tony who was away, enjoyed hosting just as much as she did. We had our 7yr old son with us and she held off feeding sheep until we arrived so he could help.

The accommodation was pleasant and well situated. Arrowtown is my preference for dining and in my opinion a far better setting to Queenstown. Willowbrook is only 10 minutes to Arrowtown, yet still a short commute to Queenstown.

Room Tip: We had a room in the house. Considering we had a kid with us probably not the best choice.

Thank you very much for taking the time to submit a review. I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay and that your son enjoyed 'meeting' our sheep!
Trish and Tony will be humbled by your kind comments. I do hope we can accommodate you again in the future (perhaps with your young son, our self-catering Barn could be a good option).

Kind regards
Roy Llewellyn (Willowbrook Owner)

The service put on by Trish and Tony was excellent, a welcoming warm old house was perfectly located close to Arrowtown (great for a quiet meal) coronet peak and Queenstown (not so quiet meal haha) highly recommended and would definately stay again

Thoroughly enjoyed my short break in a queen room with a comfy bed and heated bathroom floor at the Willowbrook B & B. Tony and Trish were fantastic hosts; they have great local knowledge of amazing walks to enjoy, provided fresh homemade toast and fruit for breakfast, and made sure a welcoming fire was alight for breakfast and in the evenings. The spa / jacuzzi was a real treat after a days walking! I felt very well looked after and comfortable. What a great location between Arrowtown and Queenstown, I hired a car which allowed me to explore the surrounding areas with ease.

We stayed in "The Barn". This space will sleep 6 which was fine as there were 3 of us.

The furniture is a mismatched group of what appeared to be cast offs from another setting. Because the furniture does not fit the space it is just lined up along the perimeter of the room. The only way to see the tv was to sit in the wooden kitchen chairs. There were 2 tiny wooden tables with 4 chairs (mismatched). One of the chairs was too "rickety" to be used safely so we put it off to the side to ensure there were no accidents. The finish on the other chairs was in such bad condition that you stuck to them when you sat for any length of time.

Although the space will accommodate 6 people, there were 2 small pots and a small fry pan....there is no way you could prepare food for 6. We did ask for a larger pot and it was provided,no problem.

The shower is one of those with a drain in the floor and a curtain around it. There was a barrier of sorts on the floor (looked like pool equipment) to try to retain the water in the shower area, however this did not work and the bathroom floor was entirely wet.

We were there for 2 nights and there was no checking of the room......same wet towels and bathroom floor and no bed making or garbage emptying. We were okay with this but it is the only time on this 1 month trip so far, that these basics were not done.

To be fair, the setting was lovely and the view of the mountains was quite lovely, and there is a spa pool which you are welcome to use......just be aware of the shortcomings as per above.

Thank you for taking the time to submit a review following your stay. I am sorry you did not find everything to your liking in The Barn.

I accept one of the wooden chairs may have seen better days and for that reason we will shortly be replacing all of them. However they are not the only way to see the TV – there is a 3 seater sofa and matching easy chair, both of which can be moved into a suitable postion. We find our guests enjoy the space in The Barn (especially families with smaller children) and as such it makes sense to arrange the furniture in a way that maximises that spaciousness. Guests are allowed to move it during their stay.

The Annex with 2 single beds and 2 bunk beds is reached through the connecting door and together with the main room, The Barn can accommodate 6 people. When there is a party of 5 or 6, we offer extra kitchen items and I assure you that in the 12 years The Barn has been a part of Willowbrook’s accommodation, many groups have happily prepared food for 6.

We are required by law to provide at least one bathroom that is accessible to those in wheelchairs, hence the barrier-free design. We and the large majority of our guests, have found that the ‘item of pool equipment’ you refer to, when placed outside the perimeter of the shower curtain, does an admirable job of retaining the water inside the shower area. A notice on the bathroom wall clearly explains this to our guests.

The Barn is a self-contained studio apartment and an exit clean is part of the arrangement. There is an information file in which we ask guests to bag their rubbish in the bags provided and when full to place these in the outside bin (conveniently located in the adjacent car park). This bin is in turn emptied by my managers every 2 to 3 days or as required. The bed is made and towels are changed as part of the exit clean or on request. Guests who require these services on a daily basis, generally choose to stay in the Main House at Willowbrook where we offer Bed & Breakfast.

Thank you for your generous comments about the setting and the mountain views – you are too kind.

This was our first stay in a B & B and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Willowbrook. Tony and Trish were most welcoming and easy going hosts. Our room was clean and tidy and adequate for our requirements. The peaceful surroundings were just lovely for a sneaky night away.

Room Tip: Our B&B room at the front of the house, we did notice road noise. The spa area is stunning on...

If you have a car, then this is a wonderful home outside of busy Queenstown with a stunning view of the mountains. Trish and Tony were very friendly hosts who during the generous breakfasts provided helpful guidance for activities and even made phone inquiries on our behalf. Our room had a bathroom with heated floors (nice when it gets chilly in the evenings). The bedroom itself is on the small side, but there is plenty of open areas in the lounge. There is a tennis court, but it could use a resurface, but is decent for a leisurely game. Trish was kind to do one courtesy laundry for us.

We stayed one night here because it was close to the airport (less than 15 minutes). The common area and room was fine. The house is charming but I agree with some reviewers that the decor is not true to the house; antiques better suit this lovely home. Breakfast was fine but nothing special as other b&bs prepared. Trish and Tony are pleasant and helpful and the house is clean.
