“Expensive and Bad Location”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

I'm not really sure why this hotel gets such good reviews. We stayed for four nights in a standard hotel room. This was the most expensive hotel or motel that we stayed in while in New Zealand but I don't see how the hotel justifies this type of price as there's nothing great about it and in fact it had less facilities than we had in other places.

The rooms in the hotel are nice and modern. Fairly standard hotel room, nothing special. One annoying thing was that the room wasn't serviced. We were there for 4 nights and it wasn't cleaned at all. No kitchenette so we couldn't make our own meals.

The staff were helpful but reception operated strange hours and I think it closed at 6 or 7.

We thought that the location was poor. It's a 10 minute drive into Queenstown. No way you'd walk it in any reasonable time. In fact, there's nothing of any interest within walking distance of the place. It is set on a lake but our room didn't have any views of it. If you're looking to be close to Queenstown don't stay here.

Overall, I don't think the hotel justifies the price charged. If it was cheaper I would rate it higher as the location is really the only major fault. However, in comparison to other places that we stayed on our trip which were less expensive and had much better facilities and were much closer to town, this came no where close.

the good: clean, modern, very big, quite.
the bad: VERY bad internet, you have to re log in hourly. beds are the worst iv ever slept on...the floor would have been better. the lake view that i paid for was more like a parking lot view. its 15+ mins from town. nothing near it. also BEWARE the reception closes at 7pm after that there is no one there.

Room Tip: stay closer in town

I stayed at Mantra Marina for a week and I had the most amazing, relaxing time- would definitely go back again next time I go to Queenstown
The en-suite I had was very spacious and comfortable, everything was just perfect.
The staff were extremely professional, helpful and knowledgeable about all the fun QT activities that I got involved with while I was there.
Fantastic location right at the lake front with a beautiful view of the mountains.
Highly recommend Mantra Marina for anyone planning a holiday in Queenstown, was a little slice of heaven. Thanks a lot team!

Staff was friendly and accomodating. Facilties were new and floor layout was well thought of. No problem with parking and location is between the city and outskirt going to ski fields, winery and near airport. Views are exceptionally stunning. Would definitely use this apartment again when we visit Queenstown. Thank you guys for an enjoyable and memorable stay!

We stayed here for two weeks, with our 4 children, whilst skiing in Coronet Peak and Cardrona. We can't fault it. Beautiful, large appartment with 3 en-suite double rooms, a great kitchen, lounge and dining area. Superbly equipped as well. Loved having a washing machine and tumble dryer. Just like being in your own home.

Greg, Ayden and all the staff were brilliant. Really friendly and helpful and any issues sorted out really quickly.

We were meant to be moving to Wanaka for our second week as its so much nearer to Cardrona, but we decided to stay as Mantra was so fabulous, that the extra driving was worth it.

Stayed at Mantra for 12 days and would recommend it to anyone! Most amazing views of the Remarkables and lake. Getting around was no issue as it's only a 5 minute drive from the town center and Buses to town leave every 10 minutes (the stop is right outside mantra). The apartments themselves are stunning, nice big kitchen and lounge, plenty of space for anyone and everyone, plus the walls are sound proofed so I didn't hear a thing from the road. Without a doubt the best hotel I've stayed at EVER!. Service was second to none, And a big thanks to Greg and the team who were extremely helpful with bookings and ideas for things to do. Will definitely be returning as soon as possible!! Thanks for the great time Mantra Marina!

Room Tip: Add that little extra for the upper apartments, the view is worth it.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom lake view apartment, with three adults and three children. Each room had it's own bathroom which was fantastic. Kitchen and laundry facilities were great and meant that we could have all meals and do laundry at the apartment. Hotel is about a five minute drive from the centre of Queenstown, not a problem if you have a car. Morning views across the lake were beautiful. Room wasn't set up as requested initially, but was sorted out very quickly. Hotel is close to the road and traffic noise could be a problem, but we were so tired from skiing that we didn't notice it. Would definately recommend this property for family and would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the roadside.
