I stayed at Aspen Lodge Backpackers two years in a row (July 2010 & July 2011). The first time was with a friend and we stayed in an 8 bed dorm with ensuite bathroom. The communal lounge area & kitchen was clean, well equipped and friendly, social atmosphere (in fact they have two kitchens/ounges so if one is too busy you can use the other one). There is also a secure dry room for locking ski gear and free car parking available.

I returned to Aspen Lodge the following year with my boyfriend. We stayed in a private double room with ensuite bathroom. The room was small (larger ones available for a slightly higher price) but very comfortable. The private rooms are in a building completely separate to the hostel section with their very own kitchen and lounge area above for the exclusive use of the private room guests. This makes it ideal for couples or travellers wanting affordable Queenstown accommodation but not the hostel experience. However, if you do want the social side of the hostel you can pop right next door and use the main communal areas in the hostel.

The staff are extremely friendly, helpful and can book a wide variety of tours, activities etc often with discounts. They were also able to recommend excellent places to eat and they were fantastic at answering any queries we had.

The lodge is easy walking distance to the centre of Queenstown (5mins only) and there is also a large supermarket near by.

Highly recommended and will stay there again!

Great hostel!!

we stayed in a double room with shared facilities with one other room. room was large with a great view and the bathroom was very clean. Kitchen and lounge facilities were great.

Unfortunately upon arrival in Queenstown our bags were lost by the airline. the staff were extremely helpful, they looked up phone numbers for us, allowed us to use their phone many times and also gave us an internet card so we could look other numbers and to contact our insurance company. on our last day in queenstown (day4) we had booked to go to milford sounds for the day and still hadnt had our luggage back, thankfully the staff phoned the airport for us and got our bags delivered and put into our room. they went above and behond and we are very thankful.

would definately recomend staying here.

We stayed in a twin room with a shared bathroom in Nov/Dec 2011. The bathroom was shared with one other room (which also a twin or double).

For the price, I really cannot fault this place. The room was very clean, quiet and the beds were super comfortable. The shared kitchen/living room facilities were also very clean, as was the bathroom. The shower pressure was amazing! As other reviewers have noted, the dorm rooms were in a separate building to the private rooms, with separate shared facilities, which I think this is an inspired idea.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. I had an emergency visit to hospital the day were were originally booked to arrive in Queenstown, so we had to cancel our first night with Aspen Lodge at the last minute and rearrange our other nights. The staff were understanding and didn't charge us any fee for the late cancellation - very much appreciated!

We stayed here before and after hiking one of the Great Walks and they stored our bags for us during the walk at no extra charge. Really excellent budget accommodation.

It was one of the best hostels I have stayed, rooms are spacious & clean. The common room is cozy with a good size. The bathroom is clean and the shower is nice & hot. Staffs are helpful & very welcoming which I asked to stay in a less crowded 4 beds dorm & she gave me a room just by ourselves!! The walk to town centre is less than 5 mins which is very convenient.

Great location - 2mins walk into town and 2min walk to supermarket. Had double room with shared b/room. Room was in separate building from main building. Only shared bathroom with one other room. Had separate kitchen and living area with tv. Not as social as the main living room but great if u want the tv and DVD collection to yourselves. And the kitchen gets less busy. Staff were fab - gave great advice and booked activities for us. Free parking.

I was looking to stay in a nice, clean in-suite room without breaking my budget (so that I can spend it all on adrenaline filled adventure tours). After doing some good research and reading a lot of reviews of different Hotels and Hostels around town I decided to stay at Aspen Backpackers. IT WAS THE BEST DECISION EVER. The place was great (room 16 or 17 are both great), clean carpets, clean bathrooms, 2 kitchens (didnt use them though) and an amazing staff. The staff was VERY helpful on giving tips, arranging storage of backpacks, making reservations multiple times, etc etc. The rooms (16 and 17) have very clean bathrooms and are away from anything that could keep you up at night.
I think this is my second review ever, however this place really deserved to be noted as a great place to stay in Queenstown. To the point that after doing the Milford track and with 4 nights without showering, instead of going back to a nice Hotel as planned I decided to go back to Aspen and stayed there my last night in town. Finally, it is conveniently located just 2 or three blocks from downtown (perfect)

Room Tip: rooms 16 or 17
