“Very nice but...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 15, 2013 via mobile

The bedrooms are small. Our friends and I booked a 2 bed lake view apartment overlooking the lake (room 309 1). The room was very clean and bright, spotlessly clean too. For us we found the bedrooms far too small, there is nowhere to put your case other than on the floor, then you have problems walking around the bed. There are wardrobes, but sometimes when staying for only a few days you dont always want to unpack. There is no bath in this room and the shower floor when wet is very slippery. There is also only one bathroom in this apartment despite being for 4 people.
You cannot just access the spa, everything has to be booked well in advance as there are no on-site personnel.
Breakfast is good and has a good range of food with hot options cooked to order accommodating any dietary requirements, the opening hours are 6:30 - 11:00 so no need to dash out of bed. Otherwise dinner menu is good but quite expensive compared to other restaurants in town.
Housekeeping good, but were on honeymoon so would like a late day sometimes and although asked not to be disturbed before 10am, have been woken at 9am each day! Ps they warn you that if you leave your room untidy you might incur additional cleaning charges!
Staff very friendly and helpful, bus into town is very good as you are quite a way out.

We had 4 nights at the Rees. Amazing views of lake and mountains. Top class staff to meet us and show us every detail of our apartment. Nothing was too much trouble. Free shuttle service on the hour most times into Queenstown and back. First class chattels great walking track. All the amenities you need. Highly recommend. We will be back.

We had an executive room(whatever that's supposed to convey, and maybe they're all called that so who knows whether yours would be better or worse because the term is fairly meaningless) and it was very luxurious. All the mod-cons you could expect at the price.Big comfortable bed.Great bathroom with walk in shower plus a bath with jet spas.Toiletries and towels plentiful.Housekeeping happy to take care of any needs.Plenty of tea and coffee making facilities.Mini bar(expensive of course).TV with good range of channels.Room safe. All very clean.Lovely view of the lake and a small terrace to while away the hours outside the big glass windows.
Parking on site is free.WIFI is free in the room and there's a communal computer in reception with 30 mins use allowed free. There's a small gym available--but it really is small.

So what's the catch.Well none really except the outside of the hotel is a little ugly,a bit industrial, whereas the inside is really nice. Also you are out of town. There's a regular free shuttle bus you can use but it stops running about 10pm I seem to recall.A taxi is about 15 dollars. The walk is about 30 mins .
Would I stay again?Definitely because the price you should get on the internet is low for the standard of the hotel.Being out of town probably keeps the price down although since Queenstown can get a bit hectic maybe being out of town a short way is a plus to many people.Overall I reckon if you stay here you won't be disappointed.

As you pull up at t.he amazing entry and reception area the view will blow you away. You just want to look left, right, up, down, every direction is spectacular. One bedroom apartment was plush and well fitted out. Can't wait to return.

We had a beautiful room, with a great view. It's a little way out of town but you can either take the hotel shuttle bus, or if you have time it's a wonderful 30 minute walk along Lake Wakatipu. We hired a car to see the area, but also used the shuttle bus as it was nice to be able to have a drink in town in the evening. All the staff we encountered were helpful. I needed a hairdresser while I was in Queenstown as we had been travelling for a while, so the concierge recommended and booked one for me, and I was very happy with their choice. It is a pricy hotel, but as a treat it was well worth it.

Rooms are really luxury. All completely modern, big, with all the facilities you need. Bed was so confortable. Bathroom was beautiful. We had a one bedroom flat with a big kitchen and terrasse;: perfect to take the breakfast in front of the lake.
The concierge was so helpful to book the restaurant we wanted while it was supposed to be full.
Location is not the best point of this hotel. A bit outside the center city (you need a car to go). The view is nice for not sure but not the best one you could have along the lake.
I would say a bit overpriced in term of price value but it is probably just the general trend of Queenstown as everything there is a bit more expensive.

We could not have been happier with our experience at The Rees. I've reviewed tons of pricey hotels on TA, and The Rees is definitely on par with places twice as expensive. Our romantic lakeview room had a separate seating area in addition to the bedroom, huge bath, and large balcony, with all the accessories you'd expect at a "luxury" hotel like heated floor and towel rack in the bathroom, tons of toiletries, JBL iPod speaker, large LCD TV, free fast wifi, etc. The decor of the entire hotel is perfect "lodge chic," classic heavy woods, large windows, cozy furnishings on the basic side. The view, of course, was priceless.

We found the front desk staff to be very friendly. Upon arrival we were cordially greeted, assisted in unloading, and shown around; we received prompt service and full attention of the international staff every time we had reason to go to reception. The concierges were extremely helpful, patient, and knowledgable, on par with any we have found. However, as others have noted, the housekeeping services were minimal--they only made beds and brought towels, so if you are the type who expects a little (or even a lot) of straightening, you will be underwhelmed. If you annoyed when your stuff is messed with, you'll be pleased!

Although The Rees has a great restaurant and offers a periodic free shuttle downtown, if you don't have a car and would rather soak up the boutiques and flavor of downtown Queenstown, The Rees might not be the best choice. But if you'd like to wake up to sunrise over mountains and lake, are used to a little luxury, and appreciate a little advice in planning daily outings and adventures, The Rees is a perfect home base!
