“Nature cruise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 13, 2013

We did a nature cruise at 3:45 PM which is the latest option. It takes you through Milford Sound all te way to the Tasman Sea. For the nature cruise they use a smaller boat and take you real close to the waterfalls and wildlife. We saw seals and penguins on our cruise.
Because 3:45 PM is the latest option and all the big tour groups have already left Milford Sound by then, this cruise is really a good idea. There was only a fifth of the persons that you can fit on this boat, on this cruise.
There are no places to stay in Milford Sound, but there are a couple of DOC campsites and several lodges between the Homer Tunnel and Te Anau.

Hi and thank you for taking the time to write a review for your Southern Discoveries Milford cruise! We love to hear from our happy customers and we're glad to hear that you saw wildlife and enjoyed your time in Milford.
Further to there being nowhere to stay in Milford, there is accommodation called the Milford Sound Lodge - if you ever make it to this part of the world again, I'm sure they'd love to see you there for a night or two!

Kind Regards,
Southern Discoveries.

“Great way to see Milford Sound”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

My husband and I really enjoyed this boat trip. I was astounded by the beauty of the area. The boat was smaller than most there and was able to get close to the "walls" and see the seals, waterfalls, etc. The staff was friendly and helpful. It was an experience I will never forget.

“A must do experience on any NZ adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Milford Sound is one of those places that anyone who has been to NZ goes on about, and after seeing it for myself I now know why!

I couldn't be more happy with my decision to check it out on a cruise with Southern Discoveries, who were helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable throughout. It was a stunning clear day and the top deck of the boat allowed amazing views of the scenery. The captain expertly guided us close to a seal colony and also right underneath a huge waterfall which was pretty breathtaking.

I also strongly recommend the add on of The Discovery Centre - an underwater observatory. It's a fascinating chance to learn more about this wonderful place!

“Worth every peny”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

Southern Discoveries made the trip worth it to Milford Sound. Gorgeous close up views in a small boat with plenty of room to move about and see a better angle of the views. We had a chance to see a bird and a seal fight over a fish on a gorgeous day. Would highly recommend this cruise to anyone, although longer would be better, you pay for what you get.
Our guide Dave was great super friendly and helpful willing to go the extra mile to help us out jumping our car. Very informative of landscape and surroundings, with a little bit of humor in the mix to jazz it up.
Grand time overall with tea and coffee to top it off!

“Best Milford Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

I've been to Milford a couple of times now, and this was one of the best times I've been!!
Milford Sound is one of THE must-do things in all of NZ, and I recommend it as an attraction to anyone visiting the country - if you're only planning on seeing the North Island, think again, all the good stuff is in the South!! The photos we got were beautiful, as the scenery is simply stunning, but it's hard to capture how amazing it is to experience it. You simply must go there.
Southern Discoveries were a delight. The staff were polite and helpful, especially the booking staff in Queenstown, who were so helpful! The boat was also awesome well equipped, comfortable, a joy to sail on! We got to see seals, all the sights of the Sound and get up and close with a waterfall! And free tea and coffee, an added bonus ;) And on top of that, we got to go below the waters and see the wildlife that call the depths of the Sound home - AMAZING!
