“Unexpected amusement”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2014

The place will allow you to travel back in time in terms of tools that new zealand settlers used to have for agriculture. Some of them you wouldn't even think they exist. The owner will guide you through the museum and a quick tour of the place anyway.

“A wonderful garden and fascinating museums”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

This is a wonderful achievement and shows just what can be done with a little bit of money but a lot of hard work, grit and determination. This is our third visit and we have been impressed by the improvements each time. The garden is beautiful and Dave gives a very informative commentary as he shows you around - with a good dose of his home-spun philosophy and facts about lignite. The "old-time" museums are fascinating, whether you are interested in old farm machinery or not as there is a whole heap of social history there. On top of all that, the cafe serves delicious home-cooked food at very reasonable prices.

“A restaurant with a view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

A really committed couple own this place. Great food and a stroll around their gardens is a real experience. There is also an old time museum, which is also a must see. If you are unable to walk around the gardens, they have a golf cart and you can ride around the premises and at the same time you get a commentary about the history of the area and information on the plants and trees.
