“Don't miss this museum - one of the 'bright lights' of Invercargill”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

Well worth a visit. The famous Tataras were obviously sleeping off a heavy lunchtime session when we were there (nowhere to be seen) but one of the babies did show up when we popped back in on our way out. Interesting little critter! Good films about them to watch.
Burt Munro's famous "Fastest Indian" and the other exhibits were fascinating. What a character! The film about him was worth 20 minutes out of anybody's life!
The exhibition about the sub-Antarctic islands was another gem. Very well worth looking round - I wish we had had more time.
Probably these are the three highlights but, if you visit Invercargill and miss these, you will kick yourself (or you should, anyway).
"If you don't go when you want to go, when you do go, you'll find you've gone."
(Burt Munro)

“Check out the 40 degs gallery - top floor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2014

The story of the sub-Antarctic environment was very effectively presented. Four Stars - spent at least an hour in there. Rest of the museum hasn't the same class; three stars, but still worth a visit; and then walk in the fabulous public gardens afterwards.

“What a Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2014

there was not too much art, but the museum totally amazed me with the content. Maori heritage, whaling, shipwrecks, fossils - and even some Tuataras! lovely café and gift shop. A must-see for anyone visiting Invercargill - just make sure you allow a couple of hours minimum because there is so much to see!
