“Interesting displays and wonderful art”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2012

Located in a strange pyramid-shaped building on the southern edge of Queens Park, the Southland Museum and Art Gallery was magnificent. There was an excellent range of displays, with each providing an interesting insight into a topic or subject without being cluttered or overdone. There was a nice range of traditional displays, information boards, exhibits and audio-visual displays. Entrance was free, with a donation box near the entrance.
With the I-Site Visitor Centre and the Pyramid on Gala café at the entrance, the Southland Museum and Art Gallery is the perfect place to spend an afternoon, guaranteeing some education, enjoyment and a nice snack afterwards!

I spent a whole afternoon at the museum while waiting to catch a bus, and there was plenty to see and do to keep me entertained

“Great Rita Angus display”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2012

Very good local museum. Bit of a shame that more of Burt Munro's work is not displayed here.

“Interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2012

A good provincial museum with some very good art works. And, of course, Henry the Tuatara is worth a look. The adjoining Queens Park should also be walked around.
