Owner description: This is E. Hayes ans sons Hardware store also known as Hammer Hardware. It is where the famous Indian motorbike is kept. The display of old bikes and things from the past is well and truly worth seeing. The movie " The Fastest Indian" starred Anthony Hopkins.

“The world's best hardware shop”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

This shop is an Invercargill institution(they sponsored Burt Munro and have his bike and parts on display) also other bikes(approx 30) and a few cars. The shop has a huge range of hardware, auto parts,camping/outdoor and gift ware.
The staff are extremely knowledgeable and on the rare occaision they do not have it in stock they can order it or advise where you may locate it.
This is a must visit, wish my local hardware was half as good.

“Burt!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2013

This is a must do.

The shop itself has everything you would want and the staff are all very knowledgeable.

The main attraction for us was the Fastest Indian display.

They have THE bike and lots of Burts actual bits n bobs, including "The offerings to the God of speed" as well as lots of memorabilia from the film.
Its nicely set out in amongst the tools, which sounds strange but works well.

There are a fair few other vintage bikes and cars around the shop. As well as sofas, free tea and coffee which are placed infront of a tv showing bike films.

All in all a great experience.

“Not Just For Bikers!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2013

This shop is amazing!

Staff knowledge of their products is brilliant and the variety of tools and hardware is endless.

Then, every so often, you find yourself looking at historical cars, bikes and other memorabilia. Nit keast; The World's Fastest Indian and other items/bikes that belonged to the legendary Kiwi, Burt Munro!

Even if you don't like bikes, thus is a MUST SEE if you are in Invercargill!

Oh, and you get free tea and coffee with your warm welcome!

“More than a store”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 15, 2013

An amazing place - a huge store that sells almost anything - in a town the size of Invercargill. The special attractions are obviously the Burt Munro bikes. Having seen the movie was one thing but to see the wonderful collections was an incredible experience.

“"The Burt."”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2013

This is the venue where you can see most of my Dad's goodies – both bikes and many of the "offerings to the God of Speed". I like the fact that my Dad's treasures are on display for all to see without having to queue up and pay fees. Here you can also buy a copy of the book "Burt Munro – a Scrapbook of his Life" by the director of The Worlds Fastest Indian", Roger Donaldson.
