“Spacious, comfortable and reasonably priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

The motel is located on one of the main road arteries going through Invercargill so it’s straightforward to find although it wasn’t quite within the easy walking distance of the CBD I had expected (it‘s a short drive). Invercargill was a larger town than expected - it’s quite spread out.

We booked a one bedroom Executive unit in advance for NZ$155. The motel itself was a standard looking property however unlike a typical motel the accommodation was very spacious - our unit was in the corner at the rear of the courtyard and therefore well back from the main road. Dianna, the hostess, was welcoming and knew us by name (we were the last of the pre-booked guests to check-in and the others were regulars so it was by deduction!). We were shown around, Dianna explained the television controls and left some fresh milk.

The unit consisted of a large lounge with kitchen and dining area, a very good sized separate bedroom and a huge bathroom.

The lounge was comfortably furnished with a settee and two armchairs, a small dining table and chairs and had a flat screen television with satellite channels. The kitchen area had a fridge, microwave oven, kettle, tea & coffee, crockery and cutlery so self catering or bringing in a take-away meal to eat would have been perfectly possible. (Guests are sensibly asked not to have food which may have strong odours). There was a large patio door which let in lots of light and led to a small seated area at the back of the property and although this wasn’t private from neighbouring units it was not overlooked by neighbouring properties.

The bedroom was large with a huge comfortable bed, plenty of storage and a wall-mounted television.

The bathroom also was very spacious, had a huge corner Jacuzzi bath and a stand alone shower which had very good water pressure. The toilet was separate, just off the bathroom. There were plenty of decent quality towels.

The overall impression was that there was space to move around within the unit and we could quite comfortably have stayed longer if it wasn’t for our pre-booked flight the next day to Stewart Island and the fact that we didn‘t find Invercargill a particularly interesting destination. The airport is not far away from the motel incidentally.

Invercargill was very quiet on a midweek evening and although there is a guest guide within the unit it would be a good idea to ask for suggestions of the hosts if you’re planning to eat out somewhere.

Room Tip: If you're looking for lots of space go for a One Bedroom Executive

We crashed at 388 on Tay for three nights, and it was our most pleasant stay in a month and a half of travelling around the sound island.

This motel has everything we needed and expected:
* The room was quiet (there was a large group on the adjacent room, and we didn't hear them),
* The bed was large and comfortable
* Top-end toilet and shower, truly free Wi-Fi (not just 'first 2 mega free, after that leave your paycheck at reception).
* Well equipped kitchenette.
* Free laundry and drier.
* Well isolated from the elements; It was raining half the time we were there, and yet inside the room it was nice and cozy.

And last but not least, the owner was super-friendly and made us feel at home.

We stayed at similarly-priced motels at Te Anau, St. Arnaud, Christchurch, even Invercargill itself - this is a best in class, and if you're considering spending a night or more at a motel around Invercargill this certainly should be your first choice.

We have stayed at this motel five times! The units are always are clean, modern and nicely appointed. The owner always remembers us from our previous booking history and if available gives us this lovely suite that gets the sun and is very spacious (unit 10). The beds and pillows are so comfortable, something that I struggle with normally when away. The other very thoughtful touch is whenever we have arrived on a cold day, we walk into a warmly heated unit!

My 3 adult daughters and I stayed two nights in a two bedroom room. Dianna was so welcoming, had the heaters on in the room for us...it felt like we were coming home! Room immaculately clean, kitchen very modern and good to use. Living area big enough for all 4 of us to stretch out. Dianna provided great advice on local dining options and tips on tours both around Invercargill and other places we were visiting.
Free unlimited wifi was a great hit for the girls. Quiet, comfy beds, a refreshing stay. Thanks!
