Well situated for downtown and other attractions. Clean, spacious and nicely furnished. Good value for the money. Free wi-fi available was an added bonus. I would definitely recommend this motor lodge.

Had a great weekend in Dunedin for the Uni open day. Alexis motel is so handy to everything - we didn't really need our hire car. Lovely rooms, very comfortable beds, soft pillows and spotlessly clean. We expected a bit of noise - it is a Uni city after all, but the only pleasant noise was from the piper at the church next door and the church bells on Sunday. Chris couldn't have been more helpful. Totally recommend.

Great location we were able to walk to restaurants and shops but was quite noisy at night. The unit was well appointed and very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will stay there again.

We stayed here for two days last week. Have also stayed here in the past. The motels are centrally located making walking everywhere possible. They are spacious and clean and everything that is required in accommodation. The management are very friends and helpful. Left my pillow behind, they had put it aside for me and washed and ironed my pillowcase for me.

Stayed at the Alexis for the weekend and was very disappointed.
The room was OK but the noise at night was out of this world!!! I know it was a rugby weekend but the rooms were so noisy we could not sleep.
Also our friends in another room took a cockroach home in their bag!!! Not nice for anyone.
Gt your act together Alexis and get sorted.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 29, 2012 via mobile

We arrived late in the evening, trying to find an affordable accommodation in Dunedin which is clean and quiet. In other hotels or motels in Dunedin we had seen two rooms for around 100$, but they were really shabby. Other motels told us that our wish for a room under 130 was impossible. But then we found Alexis, and it we got even more than we wanted. I was so cool that we stayed another three nights. Everyone is really friendly and welcoming, the rooms have everything you need, including decent pans, so real cooking is possible. It was perfectly clean, it was heaven. The one bedroom appartment we had the first night was just amazing, it was so quiet that we slept two hours more than usual. Besides this we had really fun every time we went to the office, we felt always welcome and had a chat (forgot the Kiwi word for it, sorry ;-) ) with Chris. We ll be back, thank you for this nice stay!

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2012

The Alexis Motor Lodge is located on George Street, the major commercial street in downtown Dunedin. Within a few blocks are many, many restaurants and shops; most common are restaurants with Asian cuisine, but a wide variety of other menus are available as well. Two blocks away is the Otago Museum, well worth a visit.

Our room was very large, with the bedroom separate from a large living room. A small kitchen adjoined the living room, with refrigerator, stove, microwave oven and sink. All the fixtures and appliances were new and clean and worked just fine. The cupboards contained a good assortment of pots, pans and dishes. The bathroom was large, with a vary large whirlpool tub and shower. Again, all the fixtures were new and clean and worked well. The linens were clean and fresh.

The bedroom had a very comfortable king-sized bed and its own TV (in addition to a large one in the living room). The only thing wanting was that since there was no closet the only place to hang clothes were a few large pegs on the wall with hangers; a few more pegs would have been helpful. The two couches in the living room could be made into beds so the unit could conceivably sleep six people.

The Alexis offers free wireless but we could get no signal in our room. We were advised of that when we checked-in, so we sat in the office, or just outside, to pick it up on our laptop. They also have a very small room with a computer available for a fee. A washer and dryer are available for guests, for a fee. The staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions about getting around town and finding a good place to eat.

Even though it is located on a major street, there was little traffic at night to disturb us. Although this wouldn't be considered a luxury place, it is excellent for what it does. I would certainly return and can recommend the Alexis to others.
