We booked Scenic Circle Dunedin as part of our NZ trip to chill after our Queenstown part. Some friends had told us they loved Dunedin - Why - I have no idea to this day.

The room was very large with heaps of space. We were up on one of the top floors. View from the windows was very good. The Heater in the room was shocking and we had to request extra blankets to try and stay warm. We had left the heater on for hours and it just wouldn't get warm.

TV old style and in the worst location. Bathroom clean. Overall it did the job but I am sure if you are looking for a bit more luxury there are other places. Don't be fooled by the foyer being all modern. The hotel itself is very central and wlaking distance to most things.

We ate breakfast in the hotel which was good. But most hotel brekkys these days should be. Not much can go wrong. Goopd service and friendly staff.

There is nothing wrong with the town itself but I guess we were just expecting more after a fantatsic time in Queenstown.

We did the obligatory Dunarch Castle, Cadbury Tour, Brewery Tour, Drove out along the coast line, drove the steepest street in the world but nothing in the town was exciting us. (Except the buzz of my proposal and her saying yes) .

Of course this opinion may differ to others but if we hadn't booked flights from Dunedin to Christchurch back in Oz we would of driven back to Queenstown or through to Christchurch.

Hotel and City a nice place but we won't be going back again.

“Great Stay”

Scenic Circle Dunedin City Hotel

Stayed for two nights in March in room 710. The room was very spacious, good storage for luggage, excellent location, harbour views (mind, you have to stand up to look out of the window) and a really great breakfast. The breakfast was $11.00 for any two eggs and included juice, coffee and toast. A really good deal plus perfectly cooked eggs. Found the staff to be excellent, friendly, efficient - some of the best trained staff in our travels of NZ. Only complaint, a hum of some sort in the room, seen to stop at 10.00pm, 11.00pm - earplugs help! Would stay again.

DH and I stayed here for three nights, and found it to be a very good, clean and efficient hotel. It is right next to The Octagon in Dunedin and is ideally placed to see the city. I was not at all well when we arrived and we were helped very quickly, which was welcome. The room service menu was good and quite large, and with a very small additional charge. Service was prompt and the food good.

The only small criticism was that we had to pay extra for parking, however it was in a city centre location and the valet service was good, so if you know to expect it, there it is.

We could also hear a little noise late at night, sounded like British tourists singing, but not for long. We were on the 6th floor.

Pretty good, clean and efficient. Just not much personality.

I stayed at this hotel over Dec 16 and 17, 2007. I concur with the other reviewers who praised this hotel. I was very satisfied with my stay there. The room (on 4th floor) was very spacious and large, with good quality bedding, bath and other fixtures. The staff were polite and check-in/out was efficient and fast. The hotel is some kind of converted office building so it lacks architectural charm, but it has a clean minimalist decor that complements the look of the building. The location is very good, only a few minutes walk from the Octagon. The tariff (around NZ$160 for a twin) included a hearty breatkfast. There was no view from the room but that didn't bother me. I was very comfortable at this hotel and I felt that it was excellent value considering the spaciousness of the rooms, location, cleanliness and efficiency of the staff. If I ever return to Dunedin (which by the way, I thought was a charming place that deserves a second visit) I would stay here again.

“Harbour View?”

Scenic Circle Dunedin City Hotel

Dec 11, 2007

Booked a Harbour View queen room. The room was very comfortable, but the view from our 5th floor was more of rooftops than the harbour. If you want a view, I suggest your request a room on the 6th floor or higher.
