“Peaceful and tranquil”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2013

I stayed in the Milton house in St. Clair, Dunedin. I attended a match in the Forsyth Basrr stadium which was only 15 minutes from the house. Richard and Ali were very welcoming and appointed a lovely room to me. The nightlife in Dunedin was great and it was great to be able to relax in a warm comfy bed close to the town. Richard looked after us in the morning with cups of tea and toast before Ali cooked us a lovely breakfast. I would definitely recommend the Milton house to anyone looking for a trip to Dunedin as i found that both Richard and Ali went all out for their guests.

We stayed at Milton House for the Aerosmith concert and were immediately welcomed by a personalized Welcome sign outside, which was a lovely touch. The house is stunning - full of history and the rooms are beautifully done. Richard wasn't there but Ali was a fantastic host, even driving us into town later which meant we didn't have to wait for a bus in the rain. Tea on arrival was delicious (and home-made) but next morning's breakfast was particularly outstanding. Furthermore, our flight home was cancelled so we were suddenly faced with lurking in Dunedin for hours the next morning with our luggage, but Ali was incredibly gracious and allowed us to lounge in the lounge until we needed to go. Most hosts would've kicked us out so we were very grateful. Really cannot recommend this place, or its hosts, highly enough :-)

Room Tip: Ask for the bridal suite (forgotten the name, sorry) as it has fantastic sea and city views.

We stayed here for two nights and Ali and Richard were really welcoming hosts. Ali helped me get our shocking laundry done, after 5 days on the Otago Rail Trail. She even cleaned my grotty walking shoes! Richard collected us at the railway station and also took us to the airport on leaving. All this as Ali was preparing for some laser surgery to her legs - amazingly generous people. The breakfasts were wonderful with lovely touches like home cooked fruits and jams. Yummy cakes and muffins were always there and beautiful breads. I would have been happy to stay longer but our schedule would not allow it.

Room Tip: To be honest I am sure all the rooms are lovely. We were in the Campbell room.

A friend and I stayed with Richard & Ali in March and had a wonderful time. St Clair is a fabulous little place with several excellent restaurants and a wonderful hot salt water open air swimming pool for which R&A offer a free pass, I used this every morning which just about allowed my conscience enough space for one of Ali's huge breakfasts! Afternoon tea greeted us on our arrival and complimentary pre dinner drink was available every evening. The bus journey into Dunedin is very convenient unless you're lucky enough that England might be playing cricket there in which case Richard might drive you which he did for us! What a pair of stars, would definitely return to see them both.

Room Tip: One of the rooms has a beautiful original ornate glass door which is lovely to look at but lets in l...

Thanks to Ali and Richard for making us stay in Dunedin for two nights - we weren't going to but thanks to the cricket we had to! We found the location wonderful being very close to that St Clair heated salt water pool which was a treat yet only about 10 minutes from the city centre. Our room had a panoramic view across to the beach and city. It was very clean with a modern bathroom, heated tiled floor and all the special touches. Alison's breakfasts and Richard's log fires were definitely a highlight. An excellent end to our two weeks in the south island of NZ.

Ali and Richard the owners of Milton House have created a beautiful historic home. They are most welcoming and friendly. The room was excellent with very comfortable bedding and bed. The bathrooms are roomy and modern. They treated me to afternoon tea with fresh baking which I appreciated after a very long driving day. The breakfasts were delicious with lots of choice. I really enjoyed the St. Clair's outdoor hot saltwater swimming pool a 5 minute walk from Milton House. Definitely would stay again.

We stayed at Milton for 3 nights at thie start of their summer. The house is done to an exceptional standard with beautiful rooms, all bedrooms have their own individual bathrooms which really are very nice plus beds are very comfy! Hosts at Milton House were lovely and welcoming and made us feel at home. Breakfast had a great choice with something for everyone. Milton house is in a great location in walking distance to St Clair beach that has a nice swimming pool and close enough the city centre for other activities e.g speights brewery, cadbury world, museums etc. It is also close to the stunning peninsula drive. We look forward to returning and will be sending other family members in the future!
