“Great boutique hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

Stayed 2 nights here in August while visiting our daughter at the University of Otago and exploring the Otago peninsula. This is a wonderful boutique hotel, with a small "inn" feel and extremely friendly and helpful staff, especially at the reception desk. We had booked a one bedroom suite that overlooked the ocean, which we could see from every window. The location is superb; literally steps to the beach. Service in the restaurant was friendly, and the food was consistently good. It's only a 10-minute drive to downtown Dunedin, and the inconvenience of the drive was more than offset by the great views from the hotel. We'd absolutely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Dunedin (and who doesn't feel the need to stay in the heart of the city).

Room Tip: Try to book a room on the top floor facing the beach. The views are stunning.

Really enjoyed our stay this weekend. Started with the lovely receptionist who let us check in an hour early and was a charming introduction to the hotel. We haven't been in Dunedin since I graduated 30 years ago and it's great to see the change in the standards of the hospitality industry since then. We are in the industry ourselves and for our previous couple of visits felt that service let down NZ's scenery, nice to know that it's changed.
Our meal in the restaurant was delicious and made better by the excellent service from our waitress who was knowledgable and efficient. All in all a very pleasant surprise!

Overall, very good. We did however request specific rooms (x 2) ,were told they were available at time of booking but on arrival were given different rooms. When we go to the trouble of choosing the rooms we want ( from the Hotel website ) we expect to get what we ask for.

My husband, our daughter and I arrived in Dunedin late afternoon with no bookings. At reception we encountered a very friendly young lady who booked us in and even upgraded us to a room with a sea view. She also arranged for a rollaway bed for our daughter with no fuss.
She informed us that the restaurant was fully booked however if we wanted to eat after 8.30pm this wouldn't be a problem. We decided to order room service instead which arrived in very prompt time and was lovely. We found all the facilities to be clean and comfortable. We will recommend this hotel to our friends and family :-)

We stayed at Hotel St Clair for 3 nights and loved this hotel. Staff were efficient and friendly. The view of the ocean is great! I loved listening to the crashing of the waves and would spend hours just looking at the view. Great decor in our room. Very clean and modern with great appliances. Cafes and restaurants within walking distance. Our stay here was thoroughly enjoyable.

This was our second stay at this great hotel, with rooms that look out on the beach, the endless flow of storm induced waves and visitors to the Espalnade to watch the breakers against the sea wall. In summer it is great to walk along the beach. The romms are well appointed and warm and welcoming after a day out exploring Dunedin and surrounds. Friendly staff top off a great holiday.

Room Tip: Choose the seaview rooms

Waking to the sight of endless breakers lit by suffused sunlight as they roll in to shore below your window is a great experience. So is the comfort of the room with huge double glazed windows looking out to sea, along with friendly staff and excellent food. Room service breakfast was prompt, fresh and appealing and our dinner of local lamb and venison the previous night was cooked to perfection. Hard to fault.
