“Penguins galore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 17, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our day out with Chris. We visited most of the Dunedin photospots (Otoga University, Baldwin Street and the Railway Station before we went out to Lanarch Castle and gardens and stopped at a small pub for lunch.
After lunch we went to see the Albatrosses, but unfortunately they weren't playing game!
The highlight for me was the yellow eyed pengiuns and we saw penguins and chicks at theire nesting site through a series of Hides and tenches and we were so close!
Chris was great and was very informative. Overall a great day and well paced - picked us up on time and returned us to the ship in good time.
The only downside there is no time for any souvenier shopping if you want that.
I have no hesitation in recommending this tour.

“See the Otago Peninsula on foot”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2013

We booked Back to Nature Tours for an afternoon hike on the Otago Peninsula. It was early spring in November and there was a cold wind blowing from the south and they offered us a time slot on the next day, when it wasn't supposed to be so cold, but we had other plans, so we went as originally planned. We were picked up by Chris at our hotel and turned out to be the only people on the tour that afternoon, but we went anyways, a tour for two. After driving and showing us some sights on the near parts of the peninsula, we stopped at Sandymount Hill and hiked down to Sandfly Bay beach. Chris let us set the pace and answered all our questions about the ecology, fauna, and flora that we passed. We arrived at the beach several hours later and were taken to a small hut for a hot Milo and a short rest. Then we hiked down the beach just in time to see the Hooker Sea Lions awaken from their afternoon naps and start to posture with each other and bellow. Unfortunately, we saw no yellow-eyed penguins come ashore, although we saw their tracks and heard their calls.
This tour lasted about 5 1/2 hours was a wonderful way to see a little part of the Otago Peninsula on foot.

“Cruise excursion Dundin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

We thoroughly enjoyed our day out with Chris. We had looked at Ship tours but none did all of the things we wanted - this did and we saw so much more in the day.
We visited Dunedin, Baldwin street, the dstation and we were lucky to see the farmers market whcih was on that day. We visited Lanarch castle and gardens at an unhurried pace and then onto a pub for lunch. After lunch we went to see the yellow eyed pengiuns with a nice walk along the cliffs an added bonus. We saw the penguins and chicks in their hide and we were so close! We the went to see Albatrosses and were lucky enough to see them . Chris was great and was very informative and answered all our questions. A great day, well paced - picked us up on time and returned us to the ship in good time. Highly recommended

“Great tour in Rotorua (port of Tauranga)”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We booked Back to Nature Tours for a tour of the geothermal area of Rotorua, from a port stop in Tauranga. (We had already used the same company previously for a tour from a port stop in Dunedin). Our tour guide was Kevin, and he did a spectacular job. We were picked up promptly at our port and boarded the van with a small group of maybe 8 other passengers. Kevin was very informative and answered all questions asked of him. He kept to his schedule so we were able to see a lot in just a day. While we were ending our tour at the Thermal Village and some of us were heading back to the van, Kevin came running to find us to let us know that a geyser was erupting and to head back. What a sight that was! The awesome height of the water, the blowing steam, and the spray we felt on our faces was a great way to end the fantastic tour we just had. After, he stopped by the side of the road and brought us to some bubbling mud pools, quite a sight for us since we don't see anything like this where we are from. The other stops we made (and there were a lot!) such as Okere Falls, the Redwood forest, and the kiwi farm were quite enjoyable. Kevin is a proud kiwi and obviously enjoys showing off his beautiful country. I would highly recommend Back to Nature Tours (Tauranga) to anyone as a better and less expensive alternative to the cruise ship offerings. Thanks Kevin!

“Small Groups see More”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

First stop on the Cruise ship Celebrity Solstice was Dunedin. Booked Back to Nature Tours through the Internet from the UK, having read the recommendations on TA. Tour minibus waiting as we disembarked, and met by Chris and Les (The driver of our vehicle). Everything as promised, tour of Dunedin to include some of the lovely Victorian architecture , Baldwin Street, Larnach Castle & Gardens. The highlight for us was the penguins of the Otago Peninsular. Greg our guide, knew the individual penguins by name and family history. ...We had a fabulous view of parents and babies.. ..truly memorial. The day concluded with a view of the amazing Albatross........... and the lunch of Blue Eyed Cod and Chips at Portobello is highly recommended. A memorable day.
