“It all depends...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

One of the most popular restaurants in Christchurch, especially in the summer when you can eat outside (although, not recommended on a windy day). Had mixed reports from friends about this place and although I was served politely and efficiently, it appears service all depends on who is on duty and what mood they are in.
Food is expensive for what you get but cooked and presented well. The atmosphere is usually good and bustling.

“Better options”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

I didn't have Internet service and couldn't check the prior reviews.

The people were okay, the decor was nice... However the food really wasn't good. I had French onion soup and it had a grainy texture and a flavor almost like gravy. I had to add a lot of pepper and salt just to be able to eat 25% of it. My salad was okay just really drenched in dressing.

I wouldn't eat there again especially with so many good options in Christchurch.

“lovely way to spend a few hours”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 15, 2013

We were only in Christchurch for 2 nights but ended up in this bar late both afternoons. Very relaxing atmosphere and on the Sunday afternoon a really excellent band. Thoroughly recommend it.

“A random choice of restaurant that really paid off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

I was staying around the corner and looking for a pleasant meal - dining alone. This place had the right atmosphere for a solo diner - not one of those intimate little restaurants but not too cavernous and anonymous either. It was stylish and the slightly raised dining area meant that you had things to look at over the top of your book. What I hadn't anticipated was how delicious the food was. I had a small plate of braised sweetbreads with porcini mushrooms and a side dish of broad beans with silver beet. The sweetbreads were divine. I followed this with a perfect brulee - slightly flavoured with ginger and a glass of desert wine. It was all lovely and the attention from the wait staff was just right.

“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Saw some mixed reviews, but at the suggestion of our hotel we ate there and had a great experience. Went for lunch on a wet and miserable day and were greeted warmly at the door. Had great service--the host even took my wet coat and hung it on my chair. I had a fabulous NZ white, spouse had a NZ red that had gone off. It was replaced with a different red with no problems. Note to self: don't drink NZ reds, they're lightweight even when they haven't gone off. I had amazing fish and chips, he had a lamb meat pie. Both were of excellent quality and had great flavor. Just like in Europe, there was no push to leave and no one shoves a check in your face or continuously asks "can I get you anything else". We spent >1 hour, and left earlier than other groups who were there when we arrived. I hope we're there again for a meal on our way to the airport. p.s. check out the 'no drink driving' signs in the bathroom!
