“Good value great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 21, 2009

Me and my friends stayed in Triple room in April...our room have 3 single beds so that left us with little space. Basic room with all necessary amentities. Very good location but so hard to find parking space.

Very friendly staff that let us have our room immediately even though we arrived at 8am! Great position for walking to everywhere interesting. Free shuttle tram and buses very near. Room looked onto a brick wall but we were out all day so we were only in the room to sleep. Room had a double bed and a single. Head for the strip for great restaurants. Opposite hotel is a supermarket that leads through into a stationery shop - the entrance to that is in another street that has a departmental store. You don't need a car. Great transport some free.Good value Buffet breakfast continental is included 5 nz dollars extra for full buffet.

Nice place, located right behind Cathedral Square. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. On Easter Wekend, there's no liquor sold in stores, and you have to order a meal to get a drink in restaurants - it's the law, and strictly enforced everywhere. If you're going there for the nightlife, as we mostly were, it was disaapointing, but we managed (order a pizza, and it'll seem as if you're all eating, then you can all drink). We stayed for only $85 NZD/night, great valye. Would have had dinner at the hotel restaurant, but it was almost never open while we were there (again, Easter).

We spent two nights at the Ibis Christchurch having paid $79NZ per night during Accor's room sale. We feel that it was good value for money as the location is excellent and the rooms were clean and whilst minimalist, comfortable. We agree with the comments about internet charges but found this to be the case throughout NZ and we simply did without it - after all, that's what a holiday is about! The staff were friendly and were particularly helpful to us in recommending nearby restaurants, places to visit and booking an airport shuttle service. The Arts Centre is a must-do, there was also an outdoor market there on Sunday, and there are plenty of good cafes and restaurants close to The Ibis. We'd recommend Portofino or Ann's Thai for dinner, and for breakfast, Mondo (a 5 min walk) or Boardroom (just across the road).

I personally haven't slept in another Ibis but my husband has - in plenty; he tells me they all look like the one in Christchurch.
The rooms are tiny, the furnishings - cheapo, but all were new and fresh and just what I normally look for. For 67USD per night, the hotel is a very good value, my gripes are mainly with the very expensive internet (34NZD per 24hrs) and the paid parking (24hr - 20NZD). If you have a car and you are only overnighting, you can streetpark for free until 9am.
The location of the hotel is in the dead center of Christchurch, and an easy 15min drive from the airport.
We arrived around 1:30am, the entrance was locked, but there was front desk staff on duty who opened the doors for us and checked us in. Check-out was as fast.
Since we only stayed for the night, I have no other impressions from the Ibis at Christchurch. All in all, good value.

We got a good late booking price on the internet and were well satisfied. We agree with the comments about good location, good value, and good small rooms. And also the comments about the overpriced internet

i guess the ibis at christchurch has a nautical theme going on because i truly felt like i was in a ship in their hotel rooms. their doors were also the heaviest i encountered in new zealand though by far the heaviest accor door i've tried opening is still at the novotel in hongkong. anyway, the ibis is right smack in the middle of town so you could pretty much get to anywhere efficiently. their buffet was certainly average and they only had grabe and go sandwiches for room service but there are tons of take away places nearby so it wasn't a problem. the visitor's center is just behind the hotel. go through the doors right beside the reception desk then turn right and head down the hall. there was also a 24 hour store across the street. it's a good place to stay.
