“Brilliant home and hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here 3 nights at end of South Island tour. Everything that other guests have said about how good this place is, are true. We had a wonderful welcome from the whole family. It was my birthday and they celebrated with us in the garden with champagne. Their advice on what to see and where to go were spot on and nothing was too much trouble. They booked bus trips, restaurants. The rooms were beautiful. Breakfasts were fantastic, with lots of special home made recipes. We have nothing but praise for this wonderful B&B.

We stayed here 2nights after arriving from a long through flight from the U.K , we were welcomed in early to freshen up , given restaurant bookings and advice on what to do and see. The room and the hosts are all that you could ask for , bus outside the door but we walked to Christchurch through Hagley Park with no effort. This is just outside Christchurch in a suburb on Clyde road but highly recommended .

This was just the most delightful place and couple. Highly recommend. The house and gardens were awesome. We actually showed up and found out there had been a mistake due to a hotel booking site which will remain nameless and that we hadn't a reservation. But Janet took it on to take us in (upgraded room at no charge) and then found us a place that was also a 5 star B&B (but didn't compare to this one). I can't recommend this place enough. If I'm ever back in Christchurch, this is where I will be staying.

We only live round the corner, but I booked a night at Tangley as a Valentine's Day surprise and I couldn't be happier with my choice. The house itself is stunning, Ian and Janet obviously take a lot of pride in their property and it shows in every room. Everything is very tastefully presented with period features and artwork throughout. I called beforehand to enquire about dinner and Janet was extremely helpful and honest, in no way trying to up-sell to me. We arrived to a friendly welcome with a nice bottle of wine and nibbles laid out in the lounge for us, and ended up taking it outside into the very pretty garden area to sit in the evening sun. The room we stayed in was clean and again beautifully presented and we slept like babes. The en-suite facilities were immaculate. In the morning we came down and had breakfast with Janet and the other guests which was delicious. Everyone was extremely happy and friendly which was a testament to how much they were enjoying their stay. I thoroughly recommend Tangley on Clyde if you are looking for a bit of old-world charm and a friendly place to stay in Christchurch. 5 stars!

What a wonderful way to end our 11 day holiday on the South Island. This B&B is a beautifully restored Edwardian home with very comfortable private rooms. We were in the smallest room, but it didn't matter - it was still a generous size with a lovely ensuite. The house quite successfully withstood the recent Christchurch earthquakes as it is very structurally sound and is also located well outside of the red zone in a quiet neighborhood. It is also only 10 minutes to the airport, so it made for a great last night's stay. Since Our flight did not leave until late the next day - they were gracious enough to give us a late check out and use of their computer for email. Janet and Ian were brilliant hosts, starting with a little wine and social happy hour. With advanced notice (and an extra fee), Janet prepared dinner for us and invited the other guests, so we had an excellent meal and delightful conversation with all...well worth it! Of course, breakfast was great too (try the homemade muesli - yum!). Our only regret was that we didn't plan to stay longer.

Home from home at the wonderful Tangley on Clyde in Christchurch. Janet and Ian are excellent hosts, always ready to offer advice on activities and are accommodating in every way. Very comfortable indeed and breakfasts excellent. Unlike the rather mean hotels around the country, generous access to internet was offered - matching European and US standards and important to those who need to keep in touch with home and office. Not to be missed as part of a visit to picturesque Christchurch.

Tangley on Clyde is a beautiful home and coupled with the warm hospitality of Ian & Janet Wallace, our stay in Christchurch is happy memory. The delicious breakfasts prepared by Janet were a pleasure to share. Ian's guidance and connections in New Zealand were the best. We hope to return to New Zealand and certainly will be staying at Tangley!
