“Unbelievable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2012

Now if you want to see a building or architecture that can stand up to anything nature throw at it then visit the Christchurch art gallery as this building with all its glass never lost a pane throughout all the quakes. That asside the building itself is beautifull with something for everyone of all ages

“there are treasures to be found here...but it may require some digging”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2010

The building is beautiful and spacious, but there's a surprisingly small amount of art on display inside. The exhibits generally sound interesting (i.e. The Naked and the Nude) but, on the two occasions that I visited, lacked the potency that I would expect from the largest art gallery in a city of Christchurch's size. The upsides? Free admission, beautiful restaurant and retail spaces, and a reading lounge tucked away on the second floor that looks out over Worcester St.

“Very Disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2009

The only positive aspects about this museum was that the admission is free and the building is beautiful. The art exhibits were mostly strange modern displays that left me feeling depressed and baffled. I was hoping for more of a variety. The staff was a little cold and snobby, as well. Skip it unless you are totally bored and have nothing else to do.

“Not that interesting”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2006

I'm not a very arty person and quite frankly find this a very boring place. New modern building but the art work leaves a lot to be desired. It is in the town centre so it is fairly easy to include it in a trip around Cathedral Square, Museum, Hagley Park and the Arts Centre. It's free so have a quick wizz round and see what you think.
