“This is a perfect place to stay in Sumner Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2012

We enjoyed our 1 night stay here. When we arrived they had upgraded us from a studio unit to a 1 bedroom apartment. The hotel is in a perfect location next to shops, and restaurants and only 1 block from the beach. The hotel feels like a small boutique hotel. It is very quiet here and the place the exterior is well maintained in this small complex. Our apartment had a private balcony and we enjoyed dinner and a bottle of wine on it. The apartment comes with a small kitchenette which is useful for dining in. The kitchen is stocked with glassware and dishes. There is a TV and couch for relaxing in the living area. The bathroom was very nice with heated towel racks. The bedroom was small but the bed was very comfortable. Everything inside our apartment was very clean and the apartment was spacious. The staff was very friendly checking us in and out. I would stay here again and enjoyed Sumner Beach. We toured around Christchurch upon arriving from the airport. Originally I looked at staying in Christchurch however after visiting I am glad I made the 15 minute drive to Sumner Beach and stayed there instead of being in Christchurch city. We really liked being in Sumner Beach. Go to Coffee Colture they had the best coffee in New Zealand and it is right near the motel.

Lovely motel in Sumner with a small restaurant attached to the front of it and bar if you need it. But there's no noise from the restaurant/bar. Nice and modern with good decor and facilities. The bed was great. We had two studio rooms as we had our two teenage girls with us. We couldn't get a 2 bed unit due to displaced families from Christchurch staying there but the management were great and organised the two studio rooms with an adjoining door so we could open the two studios up into one unit if we wished. They charged us the same rate as we had originally asked for the 2 bedroom unit so at $215 for a night it was very good value.

Would definately stay here again

Room Tip: First or second floor may be a little quieter than the ground floor units we had but it wasn't r...

Stayed here a few years back and returned for a couple of nights on our NZ trip this December. It's a really well designed motel, with great units - good cooking facilities, bathroom and balcony, very good-looking apartments and a feel of luxury. Great location, just minutes walk from the beach. Worth pointing out, so no one gets disappointed on arrival, that the balconies for the units do not have views (i.e. no beach/sea view from them), but still good to have - and, as said, you're right by the beach in the heart of Sumner, so really the units are about relaxing in comfort at the end of the day! Also (at moment at least) free city wifi can be picked up here. A great example of the high standard of NZ motels - and perfect for a break in Sumner (and for getting to Taylor's mistake for a swim/surf). Also, just around the corner is a great restaurant, Indian Sumner, check it out!

Room Tip: Room 10 where I stayed this time is good, but I think all the units are equally good.

We used 2 rooms recently. The beds were just horrible. Uncomfortable and serious roll together. Both parties discussed each morning the lack of sleep and the condition of the beds which made for a disappointing stay.

We stayed for 4 nights at this motel. Due to a family bereavement we were booking one day and arriving the next. We needed accommodation for 2x adults and 2x children, which is not simple in Christchurch as unfortunately a lot of accommodation is either non existent any more or being used by the workforce brought in to rebuild the city. Luckily we found this place. We had adjoining rooms which naturally gave us 2 kitchens and bathrooms. The rooms are not particularly big, so we were thankful to have a bit more space to spread out in.
We felt safe staying here, we saw no cracks in the walls to indicate that we needed to be concerned. The decor in the rooms is very tasteful with lovely curtains and bedspreads. The beach at Sumner is lovely and it was great to be able to get out and walk along it. Local cafes were great, unfortunately due to earthquake damage there is no nearby supermarket, so plan ahead about this.

Room Tip: If you are staying for a length of time you may want to ask about the size of the room. There was no...

We recently had the pleasure of staying twice (2 nights then a separate 1 night) at these superb premises. We had lived in Sumner in 2003/04 & were back to visit friends in ChCh as well as other parts of NZ.
We arrived only 2 months after the devastating quake of April. Our hosts have done a marvellous job in the face of significant adversity. The place was simply immaculate. The rooms were plush & exceptionally well appointed. Really, the comfort levels were fantastic. It is a bit pricier than a standard motel, but as a bit of a treat, this was well worth the extra money.
The setting is marvellous, with lots of rather delectable coffee shops & restaurants nearby. The esplanade & beach are just across the road.
Our stay was truly wonderful, & really made this part of our holiday a very wonderful experience.
In addition, much credit to the hosts. Brent was helpful, congenial & very pleasant to deal with.
Go stay there!
