“Polished fine dining in Christchurch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

The earthquake led to the restaurant moving to a new building next door where striking contemporary design makes for a high end atmosphere, with discreet lighting focussed where you want it: on the food. This is probably the best restaurant in Christchurch, delivering excellent ingredients, beautifully prepared, with the latest techniques to embellish the results.
You have to trust a kitchen to enjoy Steak Tartare and theirs was finely minced, served with an egg yolk in a half shell and little piles of red onion, capers, spices to season the result. Excellent. The venison was carefully cooked rare, with great saucing, and lovely green asparagus. We admired the extensive cheese board but I chose the Afogato, bringing an espresso coffee on quality vanilla ice cream.
You would expect excellent New Zealand wine on the South Island and this is a deep and long list with some truly great bottles. Excellent personal attention from the sommelier.
Service was attentive and effective, though it did seem at first that the woman Maitre'D might have sharp edges but this was soon seen through: this restaurant delivers a great experience.

“Excellent dining”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

Why is this place not number 1?
Everything we tried was beautifully prepared, wines were perfectly matched, and the service spot-on.
We had an interesting chat with the owner about the quake and its consequences to businesses, which added to the enjoyable night out. Thanks.

“Lovely meal - very speedy friendly service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2013

We had a lovely meal here. Beautifully presented meals. The steak was amazingly tender and came with incredible duck fat fries. I had warehou with watercress mash. The fish with lovely crispy outside, fish was a little overcooked but tasty

Chocolate mousse was lovely. Cheese was worth ordering just to see the cheese trolley up close and get the explanation of the amazing range of European cheeses.

A popular busy restaurant, service was quite fast. Fine for us, but not conducive to lingering.
