“Convenient, Serviceable and Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2013

We chose to use the motel portion of The Grange for our visit for its kitchen facilities and it worked well for us, especially when we did take out from Pedro's House of Lamb. The room (upstairs) was somewhat small compared to American motel standards, but clean and well appointed. If you want to watch TV, you'll do so sitting on the bed. Other than one Sky Sport channel, the TV lineup was the usual limited New Zealand selections. Wi-fi wasn't functioning upon our arrival but was quickly sorted out the next morning, and we were welcomed into the main building to use their signal in the interim. As noted elsewhere, the hosts are friendly and helpful. Parking is free but if you come back late in the evening, you may have to park on the street. Next time we'll try the B&B component in the main building.

Room Tip: There are so many diversions, street closures and detours due to the earthquake that using printed G...

The Grange is about 15 minutes walk to downtown and reminds me of an English cottage. The rooms are large and elegant. I like the cosy lounge and it’s a cool place to read a book or just use the laptop that is lying around for the guests to use. If you have a lot of luggage and cannot carry it yourself then pick the rooms in the ground floor, or let the motel know that you need help in advance.
Sleep was good and totally peaceful. During the day, we had to close the blinds because there are a number of apartments facing the Motel and since they did not have a day curtain, we could not enjoy the natural light.
The Motel could do something about their boring facade, Christchurch is plenty of homes with amazing gardens and surprisingly the Grange does not have a single potted plant in its front yard.
The Grange is homely, caring but pricey !

Room Tip: Room 4 & 5 face the street and offer better views than the rest. Don't take the rooms on th...

A friendly welcome, clean, with free parking & free internet, The Grange is well situated for walking in to the centre of Christchurch. We were truly shocked by the (still) devastation & destruction of Christchurch. The Grange suited us just fine for our 1 night stay.

As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted with a friendly face. We were shown the best sightseeing spots and restaurants in the area immediately. We stayed in the Guesthouse and our room was wonderful. A comfortable bed and a great en suite. Our breakfast in the café was excellent. They go out of their way to make your stay easy and fun. Thanks for the great time. We will definitely stay at the The Grange again whenever we return to Christchurch.

I was out for a business trip in Christchurch NZ and decided for a causy B&B instead of the usual business hotel and that proved to be a good decision. Well located at the edge of the centre near the beautiful park and gardens, this place is nice.
You are welcomed in a family atmosphere, get your breakfast personally cooked, and requests are well taken care of. Recomended for holiday and business stays.

Stayed for 2 nights in 2 different rooms - motel and B&B.
Motel is a more modern building at the back of B&B and the room is equipped with kitchenette, while B&B is a classic beautiful building with very pretty and home-feel rooms.
The breakfast was excellent and the hosts were just friendly!
Arrived a little late in the evening and greeted with such warm welcome . Right away the host gave me a map and told me all the good restaurants nearby and also the must visit places.
