“Good family day”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 3, 2013

This park offers large spaces for the animals, but at the same time provides some good encounters. It is heavily reliant on volunteers, meaning that revenues go back to the care of the animals. There is a daily feeding schedule, and it's a good idea to arrive early and to follow the schedule. You don't want to miss feeding the giraffes at noon. Because it is a large free range park, there is a bit of walking to do -- or you can take a little shuttle free of charge. The kids we were with also really enjoyed spotting the geckos in the lizard house.

“Disappointing!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2013

We went there right after we touched down in NZ. Welcome was poor, there was no covered walkway and even though it was raining, they refused to run the tram service. Had to hang about in the cafe but since it continued raining, we left sorely disappointed! Won't recommend it unless you're willing to walk all the way about the place with boots and raincoats / umbrellas!

“Experience the farmyard first hand”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

More than a farmyard and you walk among the animals some domesticated, some wild, some NZ some overseas. A highlight is the Kiwi house and you need to spend some time there to get accustomed to the very low light and give yourself a chance to see the kiwi. We have seen up to four in one visit. Perhaps a bit pricey for a whole family but for a whole afternoon's entertainment probably value for money

“Lovely way to spend a day....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2013

Well laid out zoo, definitely a family activity. There were so many children running around. I think we were the only ‘non’ family people there the entire day.

Loved the giraffe feeding, was definitely fun to give them food.

Because it was early in the morning in winter, most of the animals were somewhat on the lazy side, and not doing much, but that was ok.

The grounds were quite beautiful, with well landscaped gardens and manicured lawns. I would recommend this place as an activity for anyone passing through Christchurch. The price isn’t bad either!
