“Christchurch Botanic Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2012

A beautiful place to explore, wander, picnic, rest, exercise or entertain young children. Free parking in 2 locations. The tea house is not operating, but at certain times there is a mobile ice-cream van. Paddling pools in summer for young children and plenty of ducks to feed. But if you're not travelling with children there's plenty of space for you to enjoy away from the playground area. Museum borders the gardens and it is only a 10-15 minute walk from the funky post-earthquake "re-start mall".

“Beautiful Oasis of Calm”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

My daughter and I spent a few hours here and also in Hagley Park admiring the huge trees and beautiful flowers and watching the ducklings.

The botanic gardens were hit like everything else by the earthquakes. Some of the buildings are still closed and off limits. However the gardens were barely affected, and are still as beautiful as ever. At the moment the gardens are a blaze of colour with all the spring flowers blooming.

“Fabulous Gardens and Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We visited during the azalea season and were thrilled by the colours and early morning scent of the flowers. The gardens are part of the larger Hagley Park and are a re-assuring calm space close to the town centre devastation following the earthqukes

“Spring flowers arranged to perfection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

beautiful flowers bloom in spring and the botanical gardens managed to capture the best of flowers in the confines of this large garden. The meandering avon river passes through this garden and brings out life to the area. stricken by earthquake, the city centre opposite is in the rebuilding process but the garden remains largely unaffected. a nice playground for kids is found further in as is the restaurant. a walk along the main road will lead to antigua boat shed cafe for canoeing/punting/paddle boating and good food by the river which passes through the park. The parking area can be reached via armagh steet. This is also one of the few free parking areas with good access to the city centre for 180 mins. certainly one of the places to see in christchurch.
