I booked my stay with a travel agent, as the rate offered was much cheaper than offered on the hotels website. I never understand why hotels offer 3rd parties a better deal as they offer when a client books directly with the hotel. However, the travel agent offered complimentary breakfast, should we stay 3 nights or longer. After reading several reviews here on trip advisor and after learning that breakfast entitlements are obviously an issue in the hotel, I made sure that the entitlements are clearly stated on the voucher. Arriving in the hotel we got a very pleasant welcome and a fast check in. The female receptionist was very welcoming and made us feel special. To make sure that that the breakfast entitlement would not be an issue, I reconfirmed with the receptionist that breakfast is included in the rate. Unfortunately she denied..... I told her to check the voucher and my entitlements, she replied she need to check with the duty manager (which was actually the receptionist working next to her). The duty manager informed me that I would be right and we would be entitled for breakfast. He informed me that the hotel does this promotion (stay 3 nights or longer and get breakfast for free). because of the current recession. His next question was "On what day you like to get this complimentary breakfast?". I was surprised and answered, that - since the voucher states clearly DAILY COMPLIMENTARY BREAKFAST" - we would prefer to get our breakfast on a daily basis. He agreed and promised that he would arrange all necessary so that it would not come to any problem with the billing - and he did so. We got our daily complimentary breakfast without any further issue. Dear General Manager, you responded twice to authors of previous reviews, that there problems with entitlements. would not be the common standard in your hotel. Unfortunately our experience proofs you wrong! Nobody in your hotel has an idea about rate inclusions and entitlements. Here is communication the key..... The breakfast as such is average and nothing to be excited about. Sometimes we got the impression that there would be not enough staff, as only 1 or 2 waiters were visible and they did there utmost best to serve every guest, whilst rushing from table to table. Sometimes we just helped our self with coffee as the waiters had no time to serve. The breakfast includes a small "Asian Corner" which is actually dedicated to Japanese tourists only. Asians from other countries might not be satisfied with this. The rooms are extremely clean and the housekeeping staff is very friendly and helpful. All of the staff are very helpful and good hosts. The hotel is very good 4 star hotel in a great central location. However, some reviewers rated this hotel as a 5 star hotel and this is definitely not the case. If you see this hotel as a 5 star hotel, you have never stayed in an international 5 star hotel. The only negative fact is the safe, which is so small that guests can only store a cell phone and some small items. A laptop (like most of the business traveler bring in a hotel, does not fit and need to be left unsecured in the room. Another pain is the internet access. The hotel charges a flat rate AND volume based. Guest can choose between a 2 hour tariff (NZD 10) and a 24 hour tariff. However, once a certain data volume is reached, the hotel charges additional 0.10 NZD for every 30 MB used. I logged on with the 2 hours tariff to clear some emails and review some Excel sheets sent from my colleagues. Surprisingly right after 60 minutes I reached the maximum data volume already and got charged the above me mentioned supplement. What a rip off..... Any business traveler who need to work online will be charged a fortune. I recommend this hotel for leisure traveler who are looking for a good 4 star property in a great location. Business traveler should better stay in a hotel which serves there needs (or go for email checking to the big public internet coffee across the cathedral square where internet is offered for 3 NZD per hour with unlimited volume a breathtaking speed).
