“right in town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2010

The hotel is very nice and the staff are great.

I had just had surgery and they were very good with getting me a chair for the shower and dealing with our bags.

Me and my friends stayed in the two bed suite which was great nice view very roomy good tv etc, and more than helpful when we needed more towels plates etc.

How ever the next day we got married and yet again great with moving over bags to the next room , and getting my car etc.

The new room which was the upgrade suiet was ok the window opened on to a view of other buildings ,made me feel sad and it was such a shame because the other view was awesome.
The bathroom was ok shower over bath were the other room had a bath and shower ,much nicer.
The tv remote would not work properly, such a pain , when i was still sore from my op and had to keep getting up to make it work.

And the bed wow it was big ,but man it was the worst bed i have slept on in a hotel , it was 2 beds ziped together.

As i have said the staff are great ,I didnt want to complain as we had just got married , and had had enough drama with my cancer and the earth quakes, but looking back i wish I did as all I wanted to do the whole time was go home and sleep in my bed with a new tv that would work and look out my window at the view.

Dear genieliz

I am sorry to hear that the upgraded room was disappointing on this occasion. Please ensure that you advise us of your preference of room style, with a request for a city view, when next making a reservation with us and we will endeavour to accommodate your request.

I do hope that you are recovering well from your surgery.

I appreciate your comments with regard to the great service you received from our staff during your stay and recognition has been given to the team on this basis.

Regards,
Gary Jarvis

Easy to find in a strange city as its located in Cathedral Square which stands out on a map, being at an angle to the street grids. Set down & pick up can be fraught as hotel is on a shared street frontage. Everything in the city is within walking distance, including free roadside parking beside the parks so no need to pay at the hotel. Adjacent ex-Gov building has the excellent hotel restaurant which does an excellent breakfast.
30mins free internet access a day in reception an added benefit.

Spent here 3 nights in a 2 bedroom suite.
The suite was located on the first floor- facing the street-
first impression upon arrival-grand big windows -converted huge room-the bedroom were on the loft-with two windows like Julia's balcony.Very tidy clean, good bathroom goodies......etc.
2 single bed so tiny that I nearly fall down every turn at night-just awful!!
The Queen bed in the other room was fine! Just to be fair.

Stairway is awkwardly in the middle of the living room.
Well most of the old windows -have a weird and strange pulling system -have gaps so you can't properly shut them as they all warped- hence all the traffic noise-futile effort to double glazing-well a plastic panel which covers only one part of the window won't work let me tell you!!
we were on the scenic tram-ride one day and even the driver said let"s give the residents a hard time so he kept ringing his goddamn bell-which was later a feature of the suit not to mention the constant noise plus pavement-sweepers every morning at the crack of down!
Well the overall experience and advice-if you want to relax and a quiet room this is certainly not for you!!

The breakfast buffet service was very ordinary same stuff for 3 days in a row.But I guess it's the same everywhere else-so that's ok.
Well it's not the Peninsula....

Room service the same-although have to admit that the portions were grand and quite tasty-since you have a 6 seat table it's nice to have a meal if you can't be bothered to dress up.

A final note which completely ruined the stay
A false fire alarm went off at 12.30 in the morning and the panic attack we got with my elderly mother just ruined the whole experience
Well I will certainly won't rush back to this so called award winning hotel

I 'm not a snob and do stay 5 * most of the time but this one is far from 4+
a lucky 3 maybe.....

unless you got a deal that is dirt cheap-you get what you pay-is the golden rule

Dear ical8,

Thanks for taking the time to provide comments on your stay. I’m happy to hear you enjoyed the room service and that you were able to make use of the dining table in your room. Thanks for alerting us about the tram- the experience you had was certainly not conducive to the relationship that Heritage Christchurch has with Christchurch Tramways and we will be contacting them to investigate further.

Regarding the fire alarm, I’m sorry for the inconvenience caused, but please note that systems are in place to protect our guests at any time there is risk of fire, and the building will be evacuated as per emergency procedures and regulations. Sometimes faults do occur which must be checked and inspected by the authorities before guests are permitted to return to their rooms and suites. We apologise for the inconvenience that this caused the guests at the time.

Kindest regards,
Gary Jarvis

My family and I spent the last few days of our trip to NZ in this hotel. We had a two bedroom apartment which was very well fitted out (two bathrooms, washer/dryer, full kitchen etc) although the decor was a little tired and a lick of fresh paint in our rooms wouldn't have gone amiss.

The actual hotel is an old government building and it is beautiful - there is a small swimming pool, gym and spa so everything you could need really.

Location is A1 - smack bang in the centre of the city and within walking distance to everything. Staff at the hotel were attentive and helpful and we are glad we chose to end our trip here.

We spent two nights in the OGB apartment. Very nice room in the wonderful old building. We were treated to a nice suprise treat - a plate of yummy nibbles for our 10 year wedding anniversary, room very nice, staff freindly. We loved our time in the Heritage in Christchurch.

Just back from a short trip to Christchurch, we had some unfinished business from our family trip to NZ in Jan/Feb this year, we still hadn't been able to do the Up,Up and away hot air ballooning adventure so we returned hoping to be able to do it this time and we managed to get the right weather on our final morning this trip. hooray!!!

The Heritage hotel is lovely, the reception staff are very professional and pleasant, the rooms are spotless and roomy and the hotel is in a perfect location right in Cathedral Square central to the city.

The restaurant Maddisons which is part of the hotel offer a buffet breakfast for 2 for $29 very good value and the staff there are very friendly.
