Our first visit to this restaurant was a Friday night in February 2013. After previous disappointing Thai meals in Christchurch we chose this one because although there were not many reviews, they were all good. We were not disappointed.
May's Thai is only a small restaurant, about 10 tables, but it was clear there was a bustling takeaway service as well. We were seated quickly and given our menus and we were very impressed with the choices available. We shared a starter of 'bread and mince', which comprised eight little pieces of bread topped with a spicy mince mixture, served with a little salad and a dipping sauce. Very tasty.
We then shared our two main meals, mixed meats in a chilli and whiskey sauce and roast duck red curry. The mains included rice and were served within a reasonable time after we had finished our starter. The red curry was absolutely delicious, just the right amount of spice and definitely recommended. The other main meal was also enjoyable but the red curry beat it hands down in my opinion!
The restaurant is fully byo so we took our own beer and were not charged any corkage, although it does say $2 each on the menu.
The total bill was $51 and we thought this represented great value. In fact so much so, that we are returning again this weekend with four of our friends.
There is parking right outside the door and I think this could be one of the absolute Thai treasures in Christchurch.
