We are not regular travellers so we aren't as critical as some may be and tend to just go with the flow. Our stay was for the first and last nights of our first NZ visit.
We arrived in late June which for us Aussies is very cold which can instantly increase the stress of getting things done. The blast of cold air when exiting the ChCh Airport really gets the heart going and a real intent to get somewhere warm.
On arrival I must admit I as I turned into the hotel I asked my PA, "Did you look at this on the internet?????" as from outside it looked a little dreary. My PA jumped out of our hire car to book in as the rest of us stayed in the warmth. Check in was lightning fast and we found a car park close to the rear hotel and unloading suitcases was a breeze.
Two excited Adults and kids found the room perfect. I still don't know the room rate but for ease of access to ChCh airport and friendly staff to answer all the touristy questions made this stay a joy. Went to the bar for our two free beverages - lovely!!. The restaurant looked a little expensive so the bartender gave great directions to a pub not far from town with a supermarket next to it which ws handy.
Over the time we were there as first time visitors to NZ we had plenty of questions from transport to telecom issues. All were answered in a helpful and friendly manner. A very high ranked member of staff even offered to drive us to the local Indian restaurant as he was going that way. But we ended up putting some (plenty) money back into the ChCh economy via taxi fare.
Tiffany was the 'go to' person at the front desk and she came up with answers to all our questions. Her advice to borrow an iPad to check e-mails etc was a ripper so I didn't have to stare at my small ph screen. Wifi was only available at the reception or bar area which was great as it got me out of the room - but also made the kids want to do other things instead of their iPods.
I will definitely be looking for cheaper accom because my PA says it wasn't cheap.
But for first timers to NZ we took a gamble. The ease of access to everything (airport, malls, Highway 1) and wonderful staff made it a warm, stress free stay. If there is nothing cheaper within a similar location...we will probably just stay here again as this visit was such a joy.
Well done Copthorne. Ive never written a review for anything before but thought you deserved one. See you next winter!
P.S. We left red bed socks the first night and then a kids souvenir beanie the next night at the end of our holiday. Both are back in our possession so honesty and good service is just standard here.
